Recently had a tcase and auto supplied and fitted to my d1 auto for $2300 (2xtcase and 1 auto their way as well) at mr auto. They weren't reconditioned but they pulled the pans and they were fine. When I asked how much a reconditioned price I believe it was around $5-6k. Don't quote me though. I think it also depends on how much is wrong in the auto too.

Quite a few years ago now, fitting myself - local rebuild $6,000 - from Ashcroft (with some upgrades), airfreighted in less than a week, plus customs, and freight handler ratbaggery $4,500 (a lot less if you can get around the freight company).

Ashcroft Transmissions (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/automatic-gearboxes/zf4hp22.html)
ebay has a few tcases listed but couldnt find anything for the auto except from ashcroft. probably another 300GBP to get it here. i'd say someone in OZ would do it for about 4k.
just called the guys that rebuild zf for one of the big landrover mechs here. i wasnt far off.
he quoted $3750 for a tdi and $3550 for v8. said tdi more expensive because some of the parts are slightly different and harder to find.
PS things are usually a little dearer over west.
