View Full Version : Is anyone a member of the LROC (Sydney)?

Hi all
I've tried to get in contact with the president, the secretary and the new members' secretary of the Land Rovers Owner's Club of Australia (Sydney Branch) via their website - all without any success, so far, it seems https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ They don't publish a phone number, so I guess that I'll have to write a letter to them and post it if I don't hear from them in any other way.
Before we apply for membership, we'd like to ask them some questions in regards to the number of people that book to go on club trips to see if we are able to go on many during the year. Some clubs (like the LandCruiser Club) are so chokka-block full of members that I hear they draw names out of a hat to see who goes on trips. We don't want that in a club.
Is anyone here a member? I'm looking for a new club at the moment as for the first time in decades my wife and I are not members of one. We miss the social atmosphere only afforded my fellow 4WD'ers in the bush. I'm an ex 4WD club president and I'd like to get involved with a decent club again.
Cheers
Chris

Yes, I am a member. I have yet to go to a meeting or a club trip (too damn busy, I live a little too far away, but I'll get there eventually). They have in the last 3 years never replied to any of about a dozen emails. I have no idea on numbers on trips, but reading LROC news, it never seems trips are over-subscribed. I am actually thinking of quitting. I am also a member of RRC, they answer their e-mails, and have had several trips in my direction too.

There are quite a few members on here, Including both the Pres or Sec, and the trip co-ordinator I believe. I am a member but no longer live in Sydney so it makes it hard to keep your finger on whats going on.
Have you checked the website?

I'm a member too, as are a few here.
The website has been through some evolution, maybe some emails got lost in the ether. It's very odd no-one has replied to you.
re trips, LROC doesn't have the LandCrusher problem, theres usually plenty of trips, and room on most. The longer trips over Easter or Xmas hols can fill up quickly though.

Thanks Max. I'll wait for a reply, and if none come I'll just turn up at the next meeting to say g'day.

Chris,
As PR guy for the LROC I guess I'm the one that's best to contact and I believe that Barney has forwarded details to you.
I dont get on here that much - too busy answering my emails and planning the next LRCXpo on 23rd July (nice plug eh?!). Barney pointed this one out to me.
It comes down to that fact that not everyone on our committee is very computer literate and for that I can only offer an apology on behalf of the club. On one hand there's a cry of "why we dont get more new members?" and on the other the is "I cant be bothered answering emails!"
Anyway, back to the question. Our trips are very rarely booked out and there's certainly no lottery involved. More a case of first in best dressed. Most trip leaders are happy to get a dozen or so turn up. Occasionally though, some trips are better suited to smaller numbers and this will be promoted as such. But given that there's at least a couple of trips per month, I'm confident that you'd be well catered for with whatever your taste in trips happens to be.
I do hope that this has answered your questions and please feel free to contact me for further questions anytime. I do go bush in my Defender from time to time, so at times it may take a couple of days to get a reply, but you will get an answer.

Gday Greg, good to see you on here! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
I do about 1 trip per month with LROC and they are awsome. I usually do day or weekend trips and they've never been over full or empty.

Hi Greg - and thanks for getting back. I have spoken with Matt (top bloke) and he told me pretty much as you did.
We'll see you at the next meeting on the 28th and introduce ourselves. Can't wait to get out on the trails again - we used to organise a trip every weekend for years and miss it like you wouldn't believe.
Cheers
Chris
