My big Sis types court proceedings for a living,, with a 24 hour turnaround from court voice to Official Transcription thats printable,, she doesnt get that whole time,, though 8 or more hours typing at a stint is not uncommon--
She has just upgraded her PC to some stupid HP All In One thing (due to desk space so she says)
The question is, to prevent her being offline due to PC/HDD (oh yes it still has a HDD and only 8gb of ram!) failure,,
what are her best options?
She has the last Gen Dell still sitting there,,
but a bare HDD cant be attached to the AIO to clone,, has to be a USB ext HDD,,
I can install the cloned/whatever HDD into the Dell,

but it has to boot AND be up to date,,

so are we syncing? cloning?
Hope I made sense of this,, [bighmmm]

Have you considered using a crossover network cable to create a peer to peer network between the two?

I'm assuming the new PC is using Windows 10. In W10 the traditional backup has gone, replaced by a file syncing/ mirroring type arrangement. You can set the frequency of the syncing. If you create a sync copy on the other PC it should give you some form of backing up that happens behind the scenes. Restoration is done via the file properties dialog box, much the same as with PCs running under Windows Server.

You could also consider onedrive, keeping a copy on the local machine.
