Hi All,
Apologies in advance for posting this. I know I've seen comments on what I'm about to ask but haven't been able to (re) find the thread - so here goes.............I'm going to install a Thumper in car charge kit tomorrow and need to fix off the plastic front module to the aluminium sheet under the passenger seat. In case you haven't guessed what I'm going to ask, what is the best type of screw to use to fix off the module? I thought of an ally rivet but I'm worried I'll crush the plastic (plus its a bit thick for a rivet).
Alternatively I was going to use some really high quality double sided tape (if Bunnings has it) but longevity is a concern.
For the record I also need to fix off the back unit with the Anderson plug. For this I was thinking Velcro might be good so I can move it around a bit if I need to. Jack the Defender isn't a tourer, more an occasional camper but regular Labrador hauler.
Cheers

FWIW I have one of the self-contained "flat" sub-woofers held in place on my load area "steps" with sticky-backed Velcro tape - it's never moved in an unwanted way. But then, my car is generally a tourer/occasional off-roader and so I haven't subjected the tape to (say) miles of corrugations. And, don't know how the weight of our respective appliances compares!

The unit I'm referring to is really light - a cigarette packet comes to mind for both size and weight.

Double-sided tape but not your usual stuff. I use the black automotive trim fixing tape from Norton Bear. The present roll I got from SuperCheap but Bunnings appear to have it, too.
I used the same stuff for fixing my CB and other stuff to the dash of my P38A and L322 so that I wouldn't have to drill the dash.

Be wary of some of the stick on Velcro tapes as the glue turns to snot in hot weather and lets go.

If you choose to screw it down use rivnuts, I bought one of these kits and have found it invaluable for everything from Land Rover additions to fixing hinges to steel gate posts with M10 bolts

The screws holding the bracket which held the head of the snorkel worked themselves out and my whole snorkel was flapping around(All on a very corrugated Cape York Track). A friend traveling with us suggested we use some of his tape(he was a rep for 3M).
That was 1 1/2 years ago with no sign of it moving, he then explained they use this tape instead of welding on many truck and trailer builds. The great bit is the adhesive sandwiches a thin layer of foam and this helps absorb the shocks and stresses.
Bloody good stuff.

I ended up using the Bear double sided tape. Worked well but I will keep an eye on the mounting anyway. For the anderson plug end I think I'll use velcro with the hook tape stuck to the unit. I'll put a couple of loop tape sections on the ally parts in the back and (hopefully) the loop sections will stick to the marine carpet in the back.
Thanks for the feedback. Really helpful. I'll post a few images of the 'handi' work soon.
Cheers
