I'm into adv riding in a big way, i've got my trusty BMW GS and go wandering about on all the back tracks etc around here, we've got a big ride coming up in August to Gascoyne junction which should be interesting, we'll probably cover around 10000 kms in 3 weeks, hopefully....
I also run a particularly nasty Kawasaki ZX-12R which is substantially modified. It's cost me most of my points https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ so it's coming off the road this year, i may put it on the drag strip for a little fun
Anyway, thats my other fix, anyone else?

I used to ride a bmw r100gs paris-dakar and now I have a ktm 640 supermotard.

I am looking at getting a ktm 950 adventure or bmw r1150gs adventure.

I test rode this yesterday

I was very impressed.

G'day Lewy, Yup they are a nice bike, particularly the S model you'vce got there, i took one for a few test rides when i was looking for a bike.
Theres a thread going over on advrider at the moment in the aussie regional forum about which one to get which may help, plus theres always the search function as this has been discussed a lot.
Basically, if you're doing more dirt than tar, get the 950, if you're doing more tar than dirt, get the bmw. I found that when it came time to buy the bike the price for either bike was identical at around 19.5k
The other thing i liked about the bmw is it's basic technology = easy to fix, maintain etc a lot like our old LR's

Enjoy making the decision! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Why are you going for the 1150 Adventure instead of the 1200?Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought BMW was offering 1200GS Adventures at a real good deal at the moment?

Evenin Crump,
Nah the 1150 adventures being run out now ready for the new 1200 adventure due in June i think. The new 1200's are a fair bit lighter but the use a fair amount of plastic and new "can-bus" technology (basically reduces the amount of wiring etc used on the bike). They're not a bad bike but just not quite to my taste, after years spent on Jap tupperware torpedoes https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ i wanted something made of steel like my old Brit bikes......ah Norton's........now theres a bike!

Old Dog, are you talking Gascoyne Junction here in WA? If you are thats a huge ride from Cobar. You must be keen. I would not call myself a biker, but a bike rider. Currently have a 1998 Ducati 900SS and a Yamaha YZ426F. Previously had XR 600s(one a Ballards Finke Special), 250s, XL185, XT250, etc GSX1100, GPZ750 Turbo, XS400.

I am indeed, we've got the bi annual Off Centre Rally happening there in August, people from all over will be there, usually the more adventurous the route the better https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Wouldn't call myself a biker either but that was the next best thing to "motorcyclist" https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ So you have a Duc, very nice although physcally a bit small for me, i'm getting tired of the old racer crouch thing. I used to have a Mike Hailwood replica back in the eighties, very nice but a pain in the a*se at traffic lights, people said it would've been easier for me to just lean on the car next to me than have to unfold myself off those bloody pegs, sounded glorious though! Aren't the roads straight like ours up your way?

Dont do it, speaking from experience, its really hard to get one back when you get rid of the last one, and you know that bike thing is still gonna be there.Every time you pass one on the road, that could be me.

You Mongrels!

My son (Bucko on TW forum) is buying a new bike to replace his written off Yamaha XJR1300 (he was hit by a car). He's trading in his 2004 Yamaha R1.

He offered my his Yamaha TDM850 in exchange for paying the insurance on the XJR. For Little Britain fans, "Computer says No!" (OK, read that as wife says no.)

This was my last ride - sold to buy County:

Pity you had to give up the bike, once you let 'em go it's hard to get started again.
Well done Lew, you're gonna love that 950!

There you go with the name calling again https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Actually i can recommend the GS too, damn fine motorcycle, and COMFY! They're a pretty good all rounder, i'm impressed with how far off the beaten track you can get. But they are heavy so if you want to do serious dirt work get the KTM 950 8).

No, I'm not interested in serious dirt work. I want something that can travel equally well on road as well as the occasional dirt road. My CBR1000F was distinctly unhappy on dirt.

Another bike on the short list is a MotoGuzzi - but not the Nevada.
