Hi Guys,
Sorry posted in wrong Thread I'm sure.
I have just come across DC40-DRW 40 Litre Drawer Fridge/Freezer (https://www.evakool.com/40-litre-drawer-fridge-freezer)
They looks the bees knees. I do like the idea of getting 2 of these puppies and building draws or similar around them. They tick all my boxes except its a little on the heavy side at 40kg each. I do like that its a 40 litre fridge. What I don't like is their webpage comares against engel and waeco. Really don't like tactic.
Just posting this to see what you guys think. To me its better to buy 2 than 1 Fridge/Freezer combo for all sorts of reasons.

I’m an evaKOOL convert, now have two Engels sitting in the garage......
I was tempted to buy these for my defender but the sizing didn’t suit.
Re: running a freezer, I did it for one three week trip and that was the last time. Freezer can use more power, item stick to each other, ya forget to defrost something during the day, and you loose capacity once you start moving items around.
If you go two than both as fridges and vac-seal your meat...well that’s what we do.

i sit on the other side of the discussion from weeds. We use a fridge and a freezer for our 3-4 week trips. I do a lot of Pre cooking and freezing for a family of five and for longer trips I couldn’t do without the freezer. I have considered getting one of these drawer fridges but have been waiting to hear long term reviews of them. For trips up to two weeks I could live with just a fridge but not much longer.

Agree with pre-cooking, especially when we were traveling with three kids.

Thanks plusnq,
There doesn't seem to be a lot of reviews on them. The ones I have seen/read all rave about them. I like them as your not having to lift a whole basket out to get to something on the bottom. Ridge Rider Offer a Fridge With Draw as SuperCheap Auto. I looked at that over the weekend but that doesn't solve having a freezer. Nice idea though.
From What I know of the Evacool Drawer Fridge its been on the market for 6 months and chatting to a guy from one of the online stores he says they have been selling like hot cakes. (not sure if a sales pitch though). But the whole concept makes sense to me.

Interesting. I would love to hear more about your reasoning behind your choice of Evakool over the Engle as I am currently considering one or the other to go in my recently acquired Defender. Thanks

Firstly, best fit for out Poptop Defender layout. It’s the lowest or one of the lowest 60L fridges on the market which was important for accessing the fridge through the gull wing.
You can request the lid to hinge on either of the four sides
I purchased a factory second which I thought was good value for money....a mate purchased one a few weeks later
Good insulation
Aussie made/assembles
Local
Seems quieter
I noticed a few cross/over hybrid caravan manufactures offer them, again probably height is the reason
I still have my two Engels in the garage....kid will get some use out of them

Thanks Weeds. I've owned a large Evakool Fiberglass esky/ice box for a few years now and I bought it for the same reasons you mentioned.
I only considered the Engle because in my case it would have have fitted better than the Evakool because of the height, i.e. in the football in front of where the rear seats used to be. Though after giving it a bit of thought I think I'll opt for the Evakool.

That was meant to read "footwell" not "football". Damned preemptive text !
I didn't mean to send the message yet either
Damned stubby fingers and mobile phones !!!
Anyway I'll modify the storage in the back of the Defender to suit the Evakool.

Well, it looks ok on their little movie. If we weren't doing the caravan, I'd be mighty tempted to have one for the camper trailer. Just being shallower would make it a lot more user friendly I'd think.

I saw these over last weekend and supercheap auto. To be honest it was really big. But i absolutely love the idea. I am thinking of getting 2 Evakool Draws. Side by side then building draws or similar on top. mmmmm now thats a fun project. I rang Evakool today and they said there is only 1 they can see in victoria from TJM I think they said in dandenong. They said most people buy them online. Not sure I want to do that.

It’s hard to purchase one at a store...I’m lucky they are only 1hr drive up the road.

The fella from WA (Ronny Dahl) that does all those YouTube Videos of his Trips, etc, he's been running one in the back of his 79's Dual Cab Ute.... Drop him a line for feedback

From the video it doesn't say that one compartment can be run as a freezer and the other as a fridge?? It appears to have only 1 thermostat?

That's my understanding, drawer is only for convenience.

I spoke to Ronny about a month ago about the drawer fridge. He wants to wait until after summer for a full review so he can talk about how it performs in the summer heat in the rear of his vehicle. He did say he had some minor dust issues he was checking out.

Hey Lee,
Was just wondering how you went with this? Did you end up buying one of these or something else? If so, how do you like what you bought?
Cheers, Tom

Hey Tom,
I haven't purchased this yet. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. The DC40-DRW 40 Litre Drawer Fridge/Freezer (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/redirect-to/'redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.evakool.com%2F40-litre-drawer-fridge-freezer) looks the one to get. Its slighter wider which means I can't buy two and have them side by side. The plus is they go down as low as -16 Degrees so can use them as a freezer. The others I looked at .. engel and forgot other brand are smaller but won't freeze. They do fit side by side being smaller.
So for me its about what i want and at this point i'm in gather mode.

Here's a link to drawer set-ups by Drifta for both the Evacool and the Waeco:
NEW!! – DRAWER FRIDGE - Drifta Camping & 4WD (https://www.drifta.com.au/new-drawer-fridge/)
I do like the idea of these, but maybe not as flexible as a typical fridge.
