Came across this youtube channel today, if you like old wooden yachts, boat building and the odd bit of trekking then I think you might enjoy this.

This englishman bought this yacht, organised a yard and a workshop, shipped the vessel across the US and started the rebuild.

The 1st 3 episodes cover the purchase and the set up of the yard he uses, after that the rebuild begins. What an amazing work ethic this guy has, have a look at what he does with the fantastic workshop he has been loaned - he likes it tidy.

Anyway, got to say, just a little bit envious, I wish I had his courage and vision to have pursued something like this.

Hope you like it.

Stumbled across this the other day also, very watchable and well done videos. Bit of a mad undertaking though! :)

Cheers,

Very cool - that's a big job, I've subscribed to this. :)

If you like this sort of thing, check out the following builds too. These are new builds not restorations but well worth watching if you like these things like I do. :)

This guy is building a 41' timber boat in his backyard - he's about 10 months in and has the keel laid and other stuff done - I think about 18 episodes now.

And my favourite - SV Seeker - the Ship the Internet built. They are flying along now and have money and momentum behind them from Patreon supporters so this is progressing well. Over 7 years under construction now - this video is a good starting point if you're interested, there's 100's of hours of the build there - I've watched every minute. Doug has made almost every part from scratch including casting all sorts of things like the propeller and all sorts of stuff. Even has made an ROV from scratch as it will be a part time research vessel. If he doesn't know how to do something, he'll research it, ask for help have a go, fail, have another go until he gets it right - he's not shy about sharing all the stuff ups either. :)

When i was in primary school there was a family that restored a large steel hulled yacht in their front yard in Warrandyte, i can remember when it was finished and the truck came to take it to be launched. Quite similar to one that Gav linked above.

A lot of time and effort, indeed a labour of love. Great to see these old vessels given another lease of life.
