My wife wants me to go on holiday to Germany with her.
I am reluctant and suggested she goes by herself. I can't think of any reasons to visit Germany.

Why not Ron, plenty of beer to drink and pretty frauleins to look at. Could be interesting?

We had the same problem when we went to UK/Europe a few years back. I very nearly didn't go.
I got in the proverbial a bit once before, after she'd planned a trip to Antarctica and I said no after all the planning.
My wife went to Europe by herself for 6 weeks once before because I wasn't really interested in travel. I'm quite happy to stay home and not go anywhere.
I'm not that keen on leaving home for any reason and I tend to not go out unless I have to.
If she goes by herself, she can use my frequent flyer points, together with hers, to fly first class both ways.

John Laws once said why travel !! your only going where somebody else lives . Plus travel is so cheap now that you have to put up with Bogons . [bigsad][bigsad][bigsad]

x2 beer maids / frauleins.
Oktoberfest would be off the chain.
If beer maids are not for you, think of all the sausage and sauerkraut!
Just don't mention the war.

Maybe you can hire a Lancaster and visit Frankfurt at night [emoji12]

Or do a lap of Nuremberg, plenty of car museums, or just sit on a cruise barge

I've decided to stay home and let her go by herself. I'm not that interested in travelling overseas.

I worked with a guy, long dead, who travelled to Germany 34 times in 1944-45. He said the locals were most inhospitable. He didn't bother stopping and sightseeing but returned to the UK post haste.

The schnapps decisions you'll regret 😀.
But seriously if there's nothing there that interests you food, museums, places, plonk(beer ice wine schnapps etc) and your partner doesn't mind not sharing the experience you could spend the money elsewhere?
Is it just Germany or could you do neighbouring countries like Austria or Switzerland and maybe Italy or France ? The alps, and even historical places are very interesting.

Hire a moto and have a look around. It'd be awesome. Some great windy roads in Germany. And you could really wind a bike out on the autobahn!

I know this is moot as once Ron has made up his mind, that's it, others may like some info.
I road around a lot of Germany and Austria on my 6mth tour of Europe and the UK and Ireland by motorcycle, the roads are amazing and Europe is very motorcycle friendly, Oktoberfest was brilliant(bit late though) and this time of year it's still warm enough and ice free for a great ride experience.
People are friendly, beer is cold and excellent, food is amazing, I recommend the BMW museum in Munich, the Spanish dancing horse breeding farm in Piber near Voitsberg in Austria and the training centre in Vienna, the Alps of course, amazing cities I loved it.

Its sounds like its just leaving the comfort zone of home thats the problem, not germany itself.[emoji6]

I find it interesting that Many people travel overseas and yet haven't even scratched the surface travelling to different places in Australia.

I don't. It's so much more value traveling o/s than locally. I know many people who have found it cheaper to travel for two weeks overseas than two weeks in Aus.

I've travelled quite a bit of Australia, no harm in doing both especially if you have a certain reason for it, visiting relos or tracking down long lost relos, which was my main reason, besides it gives you a greater appreciation for how good we have it here.

visiting relos or tracking down long lost relos,
I couldn't think of anything worse!

We did a 6 week UK/Euro trip a couple of years back. It included Switzerland so my wife could check out where she was born (and visit rellies - that wouldn't have happened had her brother not told the rellies we were going). Our trip was based on what I wanted to see, e.g., bridges, ships, trains, planes, etc.
The Paris bit was for me to see the Eiffel Tower and Cugnot's Steam Car built in 1769 - the first motor vehicle). My wife is not that interested in what I want to see and vice versa.

I did think of the BMW museum as a possibility. My wife has seen the Spanish horses and Vienna in Austria on a previous trip she did without me.
She's booked her first class tickets. If I change my mind, I'll have to go cattle class at the back of the plane. [bigsmile]
To be honest, I think we both prefer separate holidays. [bigwhistle] I'll look at going (by myself) on an Aussie trip instead. That way I can look at planes, trains, cars, bridges, and buildings without boring her silly.
We do plan to go somewhere (probably Melbourne) next year for our 48th wedding anniversary.

It's cheaper to stay together than to divorce?
Well, as I said, my wife has booked her tickets both ways first class using all her and my frequent flyer points (plus some borrowed from her brother). Apparently, the value of the tickets is in the region of $26K!
This is the "First Class Apartment" on the Etihad A380.

Ah, Deutschland. Wein, weib und gesang, wurst, bier, schnapps, frauleiner.
Can't you just picture Ron in lederhosen grasping a massglas of starkbier in one hand and a buxom barmaid in the other and singing 'Im munchen steht ein hofbrauhaus".

Why?
2 weeks, in Thailand, living the peaceful life, is costing us less than 50% of the cost of a 7 day trip to Sydney/Melb/Gold Coast etc....

Or maybe in a Hamburg waterfront bar grasping a glass of Korn and singing the merits of "The Great Whore of Buxterhude" or "Reeperbahn, Oh Reeperbahn".
