Hi All,

Very VERY new to Land Rovers. However, am looking into buying one in the near future. Looking at getting a Defender 130. Anyway, after looking on carsales almost everyday waiting for the right one to pop up and searching the forum for a little bit im totally confused.
Engines on carsales.com for the defender 130 are as follows:

2.2lt - Engine Code - DT244
2.4lt - Engine Code - 244DT
2.5lt - Engine Code - Td5

So the 2.5lt is the Td5. Whats the 244DT & DT244?

Any info, recommendations and/or tips on buying a 130 would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ed

2.2 and 2.4 engines are the Ford built "Puma" engines (also used in Transits), after the TD5 engine went out of production.

Oh ok, Thanks!

So what is the tdi300? does that not come in the 130's?

and in your opinion which of these engines are more reliable?

300tdi’s are found in ~94 - 98 vintage in 90 (not sure if sold in aus), 110, 120 and 130’s

There is another active thread tdi v TD5 v puma

The 300Tdi is the earliest of the series you mention, approximately 1994 to 1998 and are IMHO the most reliable of the three because they use a purely mechanical injection pump. However being the oldest it's unlikely you'll find a low mileage one so unless meticulously maintained or rebuilt will have the typical age related problems such as head gasket weakness, oil leaks etc.
