Looking at your username, I wonder is this for a P38A or an L322? There was no Vogue in the P38A range, there is in the L322 model range which started in 2002.

There was no Vogue in the P38A range.
Are you sure? Although the (1999 Gems) P38 I had in New Zealand was not badged as a Vogue, it was listed as such in the handbook. It certainly had a few extras that I hadn't noticed on Australian P38s such as little rubber tongues on the centre console lid cup holders(!), heated seats, a bit of extra wood, and I recall the windows had some extra feature, but I can't recall what. One-touch closing perhaps?

I thought I was certain but...
The only reference I've ever seen to a Vogue was on rangerovers.net:
4.6 HSE Vogue Special Edition: Land Rover may have sold a special loaded 4.6 HSE with Alveston red paint and Red carpet, leather/wood steering wheel and leather covered lower dash (like the Holland & Holland) with the Vogue name in the U.S. (I have seen one)
Wasn't that cupholder just the later version?

Vogue only latter or last couple years .
Vogue has the badge , body colourer mirrors, bumpers , wood steering wheel ,gps etc .
Do a search you`ll find they exist .

The cup holders may have been retrofitted from a later P38, my ‘02 HSE has the same ones as in your pictures. One touch windows were standard fit, not sure if they were an option on the SE’s?
Cheers

I stand corrected. I did a search but haven't found one yet although Scouse tells me they did exist right at the end.

Brett, do you have a copy of RAVE for the P38A? There are some criteria listed for operation of CC.
Things to look for:
Split vacuum hose at the T-fitting on the LHS near the firewall or at the brake switch vent valve.
Is the vacuum pump working? This will need some manual intervention to activate it.

I seem to remember finding some good procedures on rr.net. I also upgraded to the D2 controller
Most likely cause is the hoses though as Ron has said

I just fixed the cruise on my Classic soft dash which is pretty much the same as the P38.
I found 2 problems:
1. The rubber tubes where split
2. The brake peddel switch clips had broken and sort of fell off the mount.
I also fixed up my Brother in Laws P38 which was only the split rubber tubes.

@thetree what's that about a D2 controller? I have replaced my unit under the dash once already but it seems to be broken AGAIN. I was already contemplating fitting a aftermarket cruise control since this system is unreliable, unnecessarily complex and uses a vacuum pump that can wear out and is not serviceable.

Hi Mate
There are a few references to this if you google "p38 cruise control D2 update" but here is one to start with, it's the later D2 / P38 controller

That's an excellent idea! use the bosch unit. I still have a bosch wrecker in the backyard, I see a rainy sunday afternoon job coming up. Thanks for the tip!

For those who care to know: yesterday I took the cc unit out of the wrecker I have in the backyard and spliced the plug onto my car. I have been putting this of for a long time since I seriously dislike cutting into factory wiring looms but since I'll be going on a long trip tomorrow... I am happy to report that the job is extremely easy and what's more, it works!
So, using a D2 or bosch P38 cc unit seems to be the way to go, and seriously simple.
Thanks!
