Hi All,

Can someone tell me of the Smiths instruments take the same bulbs for dial illumination as they take for warning lights ?

I am guessing the bulbs are 12V E10, but not sure how much power they are rated at, so if anyone can elaborate, that would be great too !!

Cheers,
John

Are they Edison or bayonet? The Smiths instruments in my old Hillmans used a BA7s base, some were BA9s, too, I think.

I would think that Edison screw bulbs would/could screw out with vibration.

BA7s below:

132153

BA9s below:

132154

Someone posted details of LED globes sourced from ebay, maybe under the Series III section.

If you're going with conventional globes I can get them at trade price. I replaced the ones in my Series III and it didn't make any difference, instruments must be dirty inside or it's time to consider LED's.

Hi Colin. Thanks for that. I'm looking for globes as well, this thread was very timely for me. I had a quick look on the threads and believe this is the link you're referring to: Land Rover Series 1 2 2a Dash bulbs LED E10 Warm White Original Look x6 232590 | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272119066140)
I've ordered a set for mine. I will post pictures once installed.

Well, there you go.

Who'd have thought that a manufacturer would use Edison Screw lamps in car electrics. Perhaps it was a special to reinforce the Lucas "Prince of Darkness" reputation.

Thanks everyone, I have ordered the LED bulbs off ebay. I have bought from that seller (charlie) before and been very happy with the outcome.

Cheers,
John

The P76 used a few of them too, I never had a problem with them falling out as the bulb holders all had decent springs behind the middle contact to maintain friction in the socket.
