I voted for the galah, because I just like them. They remind me of cheeky, but likeable, kids.

Eastern Whipbird for me - I am lucky enough to see and hear one when at Mums place - it lives across the road in the bush but pops over to the bird bath in the front yard on quiet mornings - the guest bedroom window is only a few metres from the bird bath so I get to watch him close up taking a tub and calling which is quite rare as they are a very shy and elusive creature. One move and he’s gone on an instant - he runs like the wind back into the undergrowth across the road. 😊

Yes they are Mark, mum and dad have a nesting pair in the bush behind their house. One day we were sitting out in the gazebo watching them soaring over the house and then into some thermals to get lift.
I must remember to take my SLR and tele lense over next time.

My sister has a nesting pair in the trees behind their back paddock.
If there is one thing that is guaranteed to keep them away - it's my 200-500mm Nikon [biggrin]

Bush Turkey... Have eaten them a couple of times, must go back up north and catch up with my black fella mates, they cook them very nicely and allowed to eat them...
Kookaburra's I love to shoot, they where introduced to WA in the 30's and are one of the most destructive birds in the state... They belong in the East and should have stayed there...
When you see them take small wrens and the like, it makes you angry very quickly...
Pink and Greys galah is a lovely bird, they mate for life thus if one of the pair dies the other will follow very quickly... I had a pair, one died when avery was wrecked in a storm, the female starved herself to death... It was sad to watch, so if I get another it will be single..

Maggie first.

Easy Peasy. Once you have seen a mob of Galahs, on a really hot day, when it is just about to rain, turn upside down on the branch or wire they are on, and hang their wings to take in the cooling of the rain, you'll be hooked. I've never fogfotten it, so it's the Galah for me..
However, I do like parrots...

Cockatiel do the same thing.
Indeed, they do. Many parrots and cockatoos do. I have seen it in many places. What sets the Galah apart is that you can see the behaviour across three states and two territories, and yet few people report on it.
Now, eevo, I am not an ornorthologist, and cannot continue this debate: can you?

Bats aren't birds, and many people have wrong ideas about them, but they are native, they are important and they can be beautiful. Here is a four week old orphaned female learning to fly.

Rainbow lorikeets. There are big mobs of them around here. They love the flowers on my bottlebrushes and the nuts on the bookleaf pines. When the gums in a nearby park are flowering and dripping nectar the rainbows turn up in mobs particularly if the nectar is fermenting. They start to "talk" loudly, squabble and fight, can't get airborne, and some fall over onto their backs and can't get up. Like a mob of dolled up sheilas on Melbourne Cup Day.
Very entertaining.

One of my favourite Australian birds is the little Male Blue Wren (Malurus cyaneus) a lively little bird and the breeding male is a colourful sight with his bright blue breast and head, as he darts through the bushes wagging his tail, with his entourage of females and non-breeding males behind him.[smilebigeye]

these are little rippers ! I have a couple of pairs in my garden , they are sooooo tiny ,watching them have a titanic struggle with a dandelion or a moth has my entranced and in stitches .
my dad loves watching birds and then painting them - pictures not the birds , he is intrigued as to how you get all the gibbons into s little fella like this !

Wedgie for sure, and the peregrine falcon.
Wedgie because they are magnificent, and also because we had one as a pet for many years when i was a kid.It was that tame,we could throw a cricket ball for her and she would bring it back.
Peregrine falcon.Hunters in the sky.The way they chase and knock birds, particularly pigeons, out of the sky is amazing.

The funniest thing to see birds do at a CBH site, is get a good gutful of seed and then try to fly... A heap of pink n greys and correllas got stuck into a pile of sweepings at a bin, we where parked for the day, and these birds where so full they couldnt take off at all... Some tried but they came down just as quick...
We all reconned they would have gut aches, but no, they did the same next day...
