Hey folks,

I am after some el'cheapo 235/85r16 tyres to run on a Disco.
I have had a few tips about cheap brands to try but when i enquirer about them they are usually not supplied anymore.

Anyone know any good cheap brands for 235 A/T tyres?

I have had tips on Sailun, LingLong, Annaite and all these other random Chinese brands. A few blokes have run LingLong but they are no longer available...

Before someone says 'why don't you pay for high quality tyres like Coopers or Maxxis etc' - I run Maxxis mud tyres which are about $300 or more on my Toyota and they are too expensive to put on a supercheap Disco and when i buggered one up out bush the other month... :(

Thanks!

Perhaps not as cheap as you might be looking for, but I’m having a good run with Federal Couragia ATs

Be good to know the year of manufacture for these tyres? I’m wondering if part of the reason they are cheaper is because they are already 1, 2 or3 years old

Cheap A/Ts which i used and can't blame them as price/quality ratio are Nexen Roadian (Korea)

Is this a normal price for Bridgestones - say if i went to a Bridgestone tyre place - or is it only Kmart that has them this cheap?

I have no idea what the cost is these days - but there were well priced at some pint - Kumho tyres. I had some Kumho A/T's on my Defender 110 ute and they were pretty damn good.

I'm running these too, not too noisy on the road but they (as all tyres this size will)put the speedo out.

Cheers

These Sailun tyres are looking good:

Sailun TerraMax A/T On/Off Road Light Truck & SUV Tire (http://www.sailuntyres.com.au/PLT/AT.html)

I found an old thread on here with a guy who used them and said that wear life and grip were both good.

My sister has them on a Triton and they're what is going on my POS next time. Great design, riddled with sipes, no bridging bars between tread blocks, etc.

I have Maxxis 700 AT's for the second time atm and they are just too soft. Lucky to get 25 thou out of them.

Thanks 350RRC.

I think i will try a set.
I just have to call around and find somewhere that stocks them... Anyone know if the big tyre places (Bob Jane, Beaurepairs) stock sailuns?

If anyone is following along and interested in the cheapo Sailun tyres - Beaurepairs can supply them, but they want as much as the Pirellis for them!
So i found a little local tyre guy who can do them cheap. :)

A friend had them on his 110, said they were good the first year but became very dangerous on wet roads, he had them replaced by BFG.I have a set of Westlake CR857, purchased them as they were cheap and offered a 50% off-road and 50% on-road pattern (like the much appreciated defunct BF Trac Edge)They are a bit noisy on dry tarmac, and super dangerous on wet tarmac and snow, the first time I drove them on wet tarmac I decided to turn back and head home, to make things even worst snow started falling which made the journey ever more epic. Now I have two sets of tires Coopers AT3 for winter and the Westlake for summer, I must admit that they are indestructible off-road offering good grip, very little side transition and are chip-proof.

Hey folks,
I put about 800km on the Terramax ATs in the last couple of days.
One of which it was raining and the tyres worked fine.

However, what pressures do you guys find is best to run 235/85s on a disco 1? The tyre guy said 40psi. But in the 800km i just did the middle of the tread has worn off the tell-tales markers (little hair bits that stick up) whilst the outside still hasn't worn them all off. So i presume they are over inflated a bit.

Perhaps 40PSI is best for a fully loaded disco - as I had the disco pretty empty on the run...

32 front 36 rear on my wifes disco 1

i find the 4psi difference front to rear works very well.

40psi is way too much on a tyre that size imho

They are rated as light truck tyres if that makes a difference?

Jax have 4 tyres for the price of 3 for Hankook ATM rf10. Will go and have a look this week. Works out to $717 for 4. If they are any good probably a good price.

I have been running Toyo M55's but at nearly $300 a corner fitted I have the Defender booked in for the Hankook offer this week.
Will be interested to see how they go as i have been very happy with the Toyo's (apart from the road noise).

Paul.
