Tow Bar

g'day guys'

Looks like I am having one of those weeks, fitted new tow bar to Defender TD5 with the nuts already fixed in the chassis on the rear cross member. looks like I may have stripped one out and it is possible it is also loose on the weld. Any ideas on how to rectify this would be much appreciated.

i'm not sure about the loose weld, maybe you could use some of that chemical weld stuff, like a putty. But as it's for a tow bar it might be a bit dodgy?

About the striped threads there a few alternatives.

1.Drill the nut out and get a Tap & Die Set and re-thread the nut, they are pretty easy to use.

2. If you can still buy them maybe use a "heli-coil' it's like a spring that is pushed into a hole and it acts like a thread.

3. There's this other stuff you can get, I have seen it in those cheap auto shops but can't remember what it's called, describe it to them and they will know what you talking about.
Anyhow it's a two part process, using a new bolt spread a coating, (glue type stuff) over the threads. when it dries squirt the second compound into the stripped nut. Screw the bolt into the stripped nut. Leave to set.
Remove new bolt and that’s it, it's created a new threat inside the nut.
I haven't used this stuff yet but if it does what it says it sounds great.
