My battery light came on a couple of days ago and after a trip to the local auto electrician I have been told I have a stuffed alternator. The alternator is the original 40amp model on the Isuzu motor. It was rebuilt two years ago but due to the new aircon, fridge etc the car need more than 40 amps and has burnt it out. The shop is talking about replacing it with a new 80amp model off a toyota which they reckon will fit. The question is does anyone know of any other way around the problem. I am looking for any ideas to keep costs down. I have done a search and found some info but any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers,

G'day Pullsy https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
The 4BD1 is basicly a Isuzu Truck motor, so I would start by checking the local truck wreckers for a replacement, just take note of the brand of Alternator and the configeration of the mounting brackets, or better still take your dead sample with you  and a good spares man should be able to match it, go for a 80 amp unit https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I bought a Hitachi 70amp (I think) from Zenith Engineering in Brisbane.

Thanks for the replies. THe only concern I have with the limited truck wreckers in Cairns is the availability of a 12v alternator as the Isuzu trucks are 24v. rar110 how much did you pay for your alternator and do you have a phone number for zenith. Cheers,
