Anyone ever had one of these fail?

Mines not taking any load when winding the spare back up

Hey mate I know that the original part was superseded, I'm not sure why. You can get a britpart one from UK, from memory about $80.

Used to be a more common issue that came up quite a lot. They tend to fail if no load is maintained on the wire rope during winding back in. The rope runs off and binds.

Make sure ur winding it up the right way first.
Had many a commodore ute driver complain about the same thing, turns out was winding up the wrong way which can happen.

Brian. You might not have to buy a new one someone who has put a long range tank on their car might still have it, which I gave away.

Mine bound up. I took it apart, got the cable back in the nylon grooves, cleaned all the dust and Grease out, put it back together with the mounting bolts. (no rivets). Working fine.

Like others say, must maintain tension at all times.
