Can anyone help with map updates for the standard Kenwood GPS fitted to 2007/8 RRS.
Dealer wants $400 plus to update.
I have Garmin express on laptop, but dont know which cable is required to connect.
Help!

I believe its not as simple as connecting to a Pc and loading maps, you will have a disc drive in the glove box that you use to update from a DVD.

So turns out that I have no CD drive to update with, but connection of PC using Garmin express and a USB to Mini B cable allowed connection directly onto GPS module.
NO map updates available.
So another request of members has anyone changed out the original GPS unit and fitted a modern unit?
If so what did you fit and how well/easy did it integrate with the car systems.
cheers.

I recommend you talk to the guys on this thread. If anyone would know, it would be these guys.

Retrofitting missing factory options to new-ish LR's; FL2, Evoque, D3/D4, RRS, etc... (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/communications-car-audio-and-electronics/231941-retrofitting-missing-factory-options-new-ish-lrs-fl2-evoque-d3-d4-rrs-etc.html)

On my to do list is 7" android unit that fits in the empty space or in your case keep the factory screen and get an android base unit.
Some thing like this for me - EBay

No link.

You enter the item number 232439585245 into ebay and the item comes up.

Hmmm - at just under $200 probably not a quality item.

I disagree, price doesn't always dictate quality and most electronics come out of China anyway including car audio.

Of course you do. Missing a few cylinders atm.

I agree with you there - it will probably work OK just the sound quality will not be real good.

When you buy it and install - how about report back and if OK then we can follow up with some purchases as well.

In my case it wont be a stereo replacement, it will be wired to the aux input that i have added to the factory CD400 unit.
A guy on disco3 forum did it a few months ago and his pm to me yesterday confirmed that he is happy with the unit and GPS works well, he wired his to the stereo so that it powers on with the factory unit.
There is a version that comes with a reversing camera that i will get.

So a bit of research on the web and I've decided that the Hema HX-1 looks pefect or near so.
It will fit in and I can power it from the base unit supply and hopefully use the original gps aerial.
At around $529 with lifetime map updates it's not to expensive and the quality is there.
Cheers for all the replies.
