G'day chaps. This is my first post although I've been lurking around here for ages. Some may know me from the old LRE forums. Formerly of Alice Springs I now live near Bauple in Qld (between Gympie and Maryborough).

My question is this: The ABS and TC lights are staying on most of the time in my 2002 Defender. Any ideas why? When the lights are on the ABS is still working - not sure about the TC.

Hi Wally
This seems to be a very common TD5 Defender/Disco 2 issue. Many put it down to a faulty wheel speed sensor. You need to check and clean the wheel sensors, usually mud is the culprit.

Hey Cameron, good to see you post on here.
BTW, if you pull the fuse the lights will go out, although it wont help your TC and ABS much https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Yeah G'day Rick. You must have known I'd pop up here eventually. The farm's going well so far. Start harvesting soon. Never been so busy.

LandyAndy, thanks for your reply. Where are the wheel sensors? What do they look like?

Hi Wally
Never had a look for mine as the problem hasnt poped up YET.
ABS systems use a speed sensor on each wheel,it is a gear on each hub with an electronic sensor with a cog that runs on it.The computer picks up speed differences at these sensors during braking/acceleration and makes braking adjustments to suit(ABS and TC)
If you remove a wheel it should be easy to spot the system, the uusual is get the mud out and problem fixed.
Have a look in the "Emporium" there are electronic "RAVE" CD's there, its an electronic copy of the workshop manual.WELL WORTH HAVING,if only to help with troubleshooting, even more valuable if you do your own maintenence.
