CREB track closed for the wet season

The Wet Tropics Management Authority advises that the CREB track will close from 14 January 2006 for the duration of the wet season. The CREB track is the service access track for the Ergon Energy powerline to Cooktown. It traverses a spectacular yet sensitive part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area from the Daintree River through China Camp to Wujal Wujal. Consistent rainfall over the past couple of weeks has made the track susceptible to erosion and unsafe for traffic.

The track will be closed until March and will be reviewed before Easter for reopening. Gates and signs at the northern and southern ends to the CREB track advise motorists if the road is open or closed. Motorists are warned that using the road when it is closed could incur penalties for breaching a regulation under the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998.
For further information contact Bill Carrodus of the Wet Tropics Management Authority on telephone (07) 4052 0546.

The public is reminded that a permit is required from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in Atherton to visit Roaring Meg Falls. For a permit telephone (07) 4091 1844.
