View Full Version : NNN ECU - what’s my options

As the title says, what’s my options......
The short of the long......I purchased a td5inside NNN ECU to replace the earlier ECU in my defender. I tried to do the swap (there is a thread) but it wouldn’t work, advice in the thread and Jose didn’t help or get it up and running for more than a few seconds.
I booked the defender in a local Laundy repairer and they managed to get the ECU to run the defender but every time they turned the defender off it would only fire and run for a few seconds, after making some adjustments to security (from memory) it would run and drive fine until turned off than back to nothing. They had another TD5 in the workshop and tried the ECU in it and it worked fine.
Jose had offered to send another ECU but nothing has arrived.
The defender is an ex-army TD5, could it have been delivered with a different setup, one theory is something has been done so the army could change ECU’s in the field without the use of a nanocom or other device......given it only has one ECU I don’t understand what could be different...security setup or immobilizer???? But would this be all in the ECU.
Given the issue presented local re-programmers are hesitant to open up the earlier type of ECU (which they recommend is the best way to go) to remove security and immobilizer as it tricky???
The only thing I have tried is putting my current ECU into a TD5 to see if it starts without hooking a nanocom to it.
One option is to sell the NNN ECU to recoup some of my outlay and be content with the ECU that I have that’s currently running the car.
Back to banging my head against the wall.....nearly 12 months has elapsed so I’m about to give up.

Ok if you are using a Nanocom can you see the AS10 ecu?
It is located behind the dash instruments (speedo and gauges) and from memory is bolted to the firewall and its green I think it says AS10 on it
Maybe the military didnt have an AS10 in which case the ecu will be need to be altered to use it on that vehicle Jose will know what to do

Thanks, will have a look. What does the AS10 ECU do??
Re: td5inside....One can only wait so long before giving up, hence looking for assistance on here.
Hopefully some suggestions or ideas will be posted and I can get somebody in Aus to sort it....

Thanks......
The current MSN is running fine.
It’s just that I paid good coin for a NNN thinking it was the best way to go forward.....just need to work out what needs doing to the tune to make the NNN run the car than find somebody to upload a tune.

Finally got the defender keys off the wife...
I can confirm there is no AS10 ECU. At first I thought I might not be looking for the right thing, I google the ECU and it’s way bigger than I was looking for defiantly nothing that big behind the dash.
Soooo, what my options.
1. Have somebody in AUS load a tune minus the AS10 stuff into the NNN. Who’s my best option to send it too??
2. I’m told modding the MSN can be tricky.
I kinda wish Jose stepped me through this process, unfortunately he hasn’t responded to my recent email. I will email him my findings today in the hope that if presented with a similar problem in the future he can step the customer through it.

Ask Paul (offtrack) he might be able to do it Actually I didnt think it was particularly hard but i may be wrong

Hello Weeds and all the others,
I did sold a significatly number of ecus a bit all over the world and I do assume all the cars have either the BCU or the 10as unit fitted because in 99% of the cases they do, even if there´s no remote key fob.
The first ecu sent was actually an ECU with the feature on which wouldnt be a problem with the nanocom . But the fact was you coulndt make it work in your car and it worked on another car so I immediatly realised it was an issue with the security code learning either for a faulty 10as unit, either for a problem in comunication.
And for that reason, even before I got the first ecu back I´ve send you another ecu with the 10as fully disabled. Its a plug and play unit that works in any td5 without the need of 10as unit or security code learning or security code procedure, a bit like we fitted it in race cars with simplified wiring looms. THIS ECU HAS TO AND NEEDS TO WORK... have you tried this one?
Regards

I’m a little confused.....actually probably better if you replied to my emails before posting.
I haven’t received a 2nd ECU which I have communicated, I even asked if you Track the parcels and haven’t got a reply. Therefore without a second ECU I haven’t been able to try.
At no stage through the process have you mentioned AS10...you have mentioned security. Wasn’t till I had to opportunity to look today after a member pointed me in the right direction.
Either way as per my last email prior to today (which you didn’t respond to) I’ll attempt to get the ECU re-programmed/tune loaded or whatever it’s called locally.
My other option is to sell it at a reduced price to recover some $$$’s.....as I know it works in a civvy TD5. Any takers??
Yes it’s been a drawn out process.......partly due to my work commitment but I have been patient.
I do recall another member starting a thread, from memory it was around communication so I guess I’m not alone.

Hello again,
I have just emailed you again, like I did previous to this post! I did assumed a second ECU was there already and to be honest haven’t checked till now with ups the whereabouts of it!😤
Mentioning security is the same as mention any alarm feature which is called 10as in the defender or BCU in the disco! I just didn’t go in to the technicalities of the name , in the same way I don’t say we are going to reflash the 29f200 in the ECU when we are actually doing a remap 😬
Anyway, like I’ve just email, I can send another ECU fully unlocked of security next Monday to be there in 3 days to solve this and we will sort out what to do with the one you have after !
Cheers,
