View Full Version : Resurrecting a deep cycle battery

I inherited a Century N70T. Apparently it had been sitting for some time, and since purchased had very little use.

It had no water in it from what I could see, and the multi-meter said 1.42V!! (I think - unless the multi-meter wasn't set correctly).

I filled it with tank water, and put it on normal charge using a CTEK Multi XS 15000. After charging, the wanring light was on, indicating a problem with the battery, and it showed 11.42V.

I'm currently charging it it Recondition mode, to see what effect that has. I thought about using the Inox battery conditioner next.

Any thoughts?

Hi Ranga and I reckon that battery is beyond recovery but give it a try.

Next time you need water for a battery, use distilled water. Tank water has contaminates in it, including metal if it was collected from a tin roof. Also, never use it to top up a radiator for the same reason.

Anyway, back to your battery. Even if you do recover it, it will most luckily be way down on capacity.

But just keep applying your charger every day or two and it might give you some use.

Well, recondition mode completed successfully, it showed 12.5V when done.

I've had it running an ARB fridge since Saturday arvo, and it still shows 12.24V. Mind you, that's without opening the fridge, but overall a better result than I expected.

Reckon the Inox conditioner would help?

i've used it in the past and it killed the battery. no idea why. the battery was 6 years old and just came into my possession
i think all my batteries are sealed now..
