Oh well, it fixes that issue.

Hmm and expensive exercise for not a lot of gain.
The rear end of the D5 makes it look as if it has swallowed a bad prawn and the rear end looks like it is all puckered up holding everything in.
Not a good look and I think it will show up in reduced sales and a quick update.
What were they thinking.

They were thinking "how do we fit two full-sized adults comfortably into the 3rd row?". Seriously, if you want a sleek, swept-back look then go buy a 7 seater RR Sport, with all the space compromises that shape entails. LR have done an amazing job in packaging a proper 7 seater into an aerodynamically efficient package, and I think it looks great, especially in the flesh. In a year or two everyone will be wondering what all the fuss was about and all these would-be automotive designers who are bleating about how ugly it is will have disappeared back into their holes. I actually overheard a Lexus LX570 owner complaining about the looks of the Disco, and that says it all...

Who wants sleek swept-back looks? Give me a box on wheels any day of the week!

Thats GOLD, a Lexus LX570 owner complaining about the D5 looks!
I”m biased as my new D5 is going around the horn on a ship as I type and have been driving
a new D5 on and off over the last few months when getting some work done on my D4, it does look much better in the flesh and colour choice can make it look quite plain or quite up-market.
it has grown on me and inside it’s a very nice place to be. And I don’t see it backside when driving !
my only concern after driving for a few days is the steering does feel a lot lighter and easier to change direction than the D4, where the D4 sits on a 110km rock solid wherus the D5 seem to drift across the lanes a little bit and you spend more time doing little corrections. That could be an alignment issue, ( it was a demo and had a few battle scratches and scars ) or I was too busy playing with all the buttons, switches, cubby holes and electronic gizmos or I’m sure I will adap.
the other interesting piece is that LR and now subletting the building of some of the JLR range to a 3rd party manufacturer, as they are at full capacity. I don’t know if the D5 is a sellout but I don’t think we are going to see any major changes of it for sometime.

I think you might find it is the change from hydraulic power steering to electric. When I went from my D4 to the L494 I found myself turning into corners way too early and had the same issues with lane keeping etc. The steering is sensitive and direct. It took me ages to adjust and it did annoy me - all good now. Not sure if the characteristics of the D5 steering are the same but it does sound like it from what you said.

Another method to detract from the tailgate is to make the front look worse:

The ECB one that fitted the D2 was just as horrid.[bigsad]

There is a simple fix. Don’t put big ugly standard number plates on it and skip the white or yellow standard background colours.
I think it looks great once the big plates are replaced with smaller ones (slimline version) in black. A number plate cover to give it a black border instead of the standard number plate white border and it makes the world of difference.
Before and after shot attached same plate just reprinted.

I agree, a black plate looks good on silicon silver.
