View Full Version : How much firewall "twist" can be catered for with adjustment ?

Hi All,

Looking at my firewall, it has a definite twist in it. What I mean is laying it "flat" the bottom of each pillars is the same distance from the ground, but at the top of the pillars, the distance from ground is about 10mm difference between each side. I think the left side is correct, and right side is 10mm to far towards the driver.

Can that amount of twist/distortion be catered for when installing through adjustment ? If not, can anyone suggest any home methods for untwisting it ?.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks
John

The firewall is held by the two big bolts at the bottom and two substantial brackets bolted to the footwells and the chassis. These should be able to hold that amount of twist , although you may need to use a load strap or similar to pull it straight.

Thanks John, I appreciate your thoughtful advice, it's good to know there is some allowance there.

In the interest of not having the firewall under tension when mounted, I decided to have a go at straightening it a bit, and it seems myself, teenage son and a few big blocks of wood go a long way to un-twisting it. We did this by laying wood underneath the good side for the whole length, and under the good corner on the other side, then standing on the corner that was out of wack. Now down to just a few millimeters of twist !!

I'm now more confident of it going in without too much torture :-)
