Done the same about 6 weeks ago.

It's actually my wifes car.

First LR here too and very impressed with the ride comfort.

Planning on a road trip from Perth to Adelaide and back in it early next year.

Off road capabilities are pretty top notch also.

Enjoy the new rig.

Frank.

Well, I can add my name to this list as of this evening. Picked up a 2006 SE V8. Only 146k on the clock. Lovely to drive. Nice burble. Never had a V8 before so thought it was time.

A question, though. How is the average fuel consumption on the dash calculated? When I picked it up, it was showing 18L/100km, which was a little scary. I drove it from Brisbane to the Sunny Coast, about 90km & mostly highway, and it had dropped to 16.2L/100km in that time, which is a little nicer. Is it over the last 100km, or something similar?

I find the best solution to showing high fuel consumption on the dash is to change the readout option to odometer, or off.

Fill up when empty, and enjoy it :-)

If I was worried about high fuel consumption, I wouldn't have bought a V8 [bigwhistle]

Anyway, another short run this morning and it's down to 15.8! Previous owner must have had a lead foot.

LOL I’ve been driving mine in Sydney traffic the last month, it’s showing 20.5L. I knew what I was in for in terms of mileage but it should get better when we go on road trips which is the primary reason we got it.

My V6 Petrol is similar to the V8 - 20's around the city with city driving, but down to 12's and 13's on nice country runs at 100- 110 kph.
I didn't buy mine for the fuel economy!

Reset the counter when I filled up yesterday, and had it as low as 14.2L/100km this morning. My TD5 wasn't that good at times.

And as perhaps another record, after a decent test drive and a mechanical inspection, got my first warning light on the drive home after picking it up - Reduced Engine Performance.

So less than 36 hours after purchasing it, I've got the tools out, and I've given a very dirty MAF and Throttle Body a good solid clean (both very dirty and gunked up), and now I'm off to do some low speed, at idle, cruising in the black V8 SUV to see if the error comes back. I just hope I don't get arrested.

It came with a full mechanical history in the log book. There had been a couple of changes of mechanics in recent times. Perhaps that should have raised a few alarms![wink11]

That, too, is possible. I'll have to find out where it is. Should be cheap to replace, I expect?

Yeh they are pretty inexpensive relative to most things. It is likely why there is lots of ****e in the throttle body and MAF...

Well, the first 24 hours with the D3 resulted in multiple warnings about Reduced Engine Performance in about 100km. Cleaned the MAF and Throttle Body and nothing for the last 3 days & 300km, so pretty happy with that. PCV valve (yes, I know) ordered and will go in when back from holidays.

Congrats, I bought an 2006 LR3 (US) HSE in October and ran into the same issues on fuel economy (11-12 MPG) Change your spark plugs, it made a such a big change in performance and fuel economy back up to 15-19 range after warmup. The new plugs also get the engine up to temperature quicker. You may also want to consider doing a transmission fluid/filter change, it really smooths out the shifting.

His is a tdv6 so no plugs to worry about, also at around 11ltrs per 100klm it's pretty good for a big heavy brick on wheels.

Ah the difference between USMPG and L/100km

11 USMPG is about 21 L/100km

Well, just got back today from our first big road trip in the D3, having done about 2200km to Sydney and back from the Sunny Coast.

It performed beautifully, and a big improvement over the TD5 Disco 2, except for the lack of steering wheel controls for the stereo, and I can cope with that.

Will be going to bed with a smile on my face tonight :)

Oh, forgot to add, got about 12L/100km on the highway. Pretty happy with that.

You can fit steering wheel stereo controls - all the wiring is there. You just need to find the right hand switch panel (fleabay) and fit it.
If you want to know more, there is a post here on it, or just ask.

A little update and a question.

I picked up a new PCV valve from the local Land Rover (indy) mechanic. Haven't put it in yet, but I've noticed that it doesn't appear to have any restrictions to air flow in either direction. I understood PCV valves to be a one way only sort of device, and required a high enough pressure before flowing in that direction. Are they different on the 4.4, or is perhaps this one faulty?
