I’m about to fit a driver side Sill tank and it will more than likely start life a a water than than switch to a diesel tank some time into the future.

1. A caravan type filler cut into the body work but I reckon it would look crap.

2. A filler mounted inside the storage bin

3. Though the floor

Looking for ideas.

It’ll be on the drivers side

133134Y filler that will replace the OEM filler for a offside ST (I have a spare one). so you will end up with OEM + ST with this arrangement

133136 This is my solution for my ST as I have acquired a front runner gravity feed tank as well.

Mine is filled via a pipe plumbed off the original filler - must be common. Changeover by solenoid and drainback isn't altered . Just run the motor car from full from the aux for 450km and changeover before it's empty :)

Refill both from the same fill point.

This system on my County has been trouble free for ever :)

All a lot simpler than the Pollak valve set up our dual tank Perentie which requires a seperate filler Pollak 6 Port Fuel Valve Motorised 42-159 Dual Fuel Tanks – Scintex Australia (https://www.scintex.com.au/products/pollak-fuel-valve-switch).

I understand that the Pollak valve system is used extensively on the big American utes/trucks

It will be a water tank first.......

Yep across fitting a Y piece for when I switch to diesel. I will also need a transfer pump as I have a TD5 which has an in tank pump.

The changeover solenoid is this something u sourced? If so, I'd be keen to find where from as I would like something similar for my Sill Tank.

Does the Defender fuel Tanks just have 2 feds? One to the Motor and One Return back from the motor? On one of my very old 4WD's I had a similar setup where I had a 6 port Electric Tap where I would just switch to use fuel from Aux Tank & also the return line drain back into the Aux Tank - This is what I'd like on my Sill tank setup....

Is there somewhere in your Side Box that u could install a Water Filler? If u are going to convert to a Fuel later on, I would have thought u don't really want an "unused" water filler being seen, so if u can hide it somewhere I would think would be better + it's got to be in a place free from getting caked up with mud/dirt too I would think?

You might be able to replace one of your bolt in floor panels, get a new one made with hole for water hose, then hide it with a floor mat. When you go to diesel you can unbolt it and put the original one back. cheers Mark

The army 6x6 has a change over valve operated by a switch on the dash therefore there would a land rover part number.

I’m sure someone has details where to buy them off the shelf.

These are the pollak valve described in post #3 above - much cheaper to purchase it from Scintex than LR :)

Maybe I should have reread your post...that way I would have been across it all

Could you consider filling via 1/2" valve and click-on hose fitting tee'd in to the outlet piping for now whist its a water tank. Just fill into the outlet, and let our escape from breather at the top.

If filling from a jerry, you can still do this by siphoning.

I agree with MarkM
Ive had water tanks now in three boats and two utes and I honestly cant understand why people put fillers in place.
Just back fill via your drain point using standard hose fittings - so much less mess than holding the hose into a slow breathing filler.
If you are using a pressure pump like I do on the boats, then have a tee valve piece prior to the pump and fill via that location.

With your setup weeds. Install tank with diesel fill orientated for y-filler off main fill point. Just dont hook in the final piping have it blanked off.
Have the breather installed running up the rear panel or whatever. Then from the feed location run the hose to pump or tap and back fill it as a water tank from that location.
When it comes time to convert to diesel - hook in the filler neck then route the drain to your transfer pump.

Well......I fill the 70L water tank that’s inside the defender via the drain using a snap on garden fitting......will more than likely do the same again but thought I would canvas the forum for ideas.

You're too fussy Weeds! The caravan type fillers look fine.

I've had one on my 130 (behind the rear door) for nearly 10 years! But I have only ever used it for water. Not sure if these types of fillers are suitable for diesel. You may be better with a stainless steel option from a boat shop
