89/90 RRC Fuel Pump

I believe that Range Rovers around 89/90 take a fuel pump with part number EFP-099. Now typical prices for this part number is around $800 to $900 which is ridiculous. This is an early fuel injection pump and is different to the earlier carb pump and the later fuel injection pump that incorporates the fuel gauge sender.

What are cost effective alternatives - part numbers would be helpful.

VN to VR Commodore pump and filter sock (not the whole assembly) should be a simple fit. The connector for the pump may vary (just take the old pump to the parts store) but the body is identical in size.

AFAIR from my 91 which did have the gauge, you only have to swap the blade connectors big for small to fit a VR pump.
Make sure that your sock does not have the smallest hole in it.
Use the original fuel hose as over the counter fuel hose will not live immersed in petrol.

Thanks but I am after a complete fuel pump - everything. I can get them from the UK for 34 pounds but as usual shipping is a killer/

Later I can get a "rebuild" kit to go in my spares - if "normal" fuel injection hose will not survive in a fuel tank what grade of fuel hose will I need for the rubber connecting hose between the pump itself and the tank mount.

I gather you don't have an assembly like the one pictured. Someone on here should be able to get you a second hand one and just fit the Commodore pump to it. Most pump kits come with a short piece of suitable submersible hose and the filter sock. It almost takes longer to write this message than it does to swap the pump over. Pump kits can be had for well under $100. Example:

Thanks Peter - works out about the same price as one from the UK. A spare would then be the Commodore repair pump. As my tank is deeper than the standard one I need to get a longer piece of rubber hose to set the pump/strainer on the bottom of the tank. In view of Phillip's comments on fuel hose not lasting when immersed I need to investigate further.

I did away with the in tank pump. No hole in the floor for access (88MY). I deleted the pump and put a pipe in its place. Then I mounted a Bosch external pump near the fuel filter (fuel goes through the filter first). It has been that way for a decade with no issues at all.

You can also use two supplied pieces of that hose and a short metal pipe in between. Anyone who fits those pump kits usually ends up with a few bits around as not all installations require the hose.

I used a VN pump and modified the length of the pickup to suit the long range tank I fitted. Submersible fuel hose is available from Bursons. Whole job took an hour to modify length, fit pump and install. Easy job.
