I've been using the stuff from Autoglym on mine for the past year but after a day or two there's a whitish powder shows especially on the dash. It wipes off with a damp chamois cloth (or what used to be chamois) but does anybody use anything better than this stuff?
The seats don't seem to be as badly affected and I'm thinking they may be a different class of leather ....... who knows with LR?
Advices please on what others use and have confidence in.
AlanH.

PS. When parked I always use a sun screen to keep the worst of the sun off.

I use the Mothers range with no issues or residue. I use the leather cleaner, followed by conditioner.

Don't use leather conditioner on imitation leather. It will cause it to crack.
How do I know - advised by upholsterer.
HSE Freelander has genuine leather on seats but some, almost identical looking imitation leather on sides of seat. Don't know about other models but best to check.

Thnx. Extreme but I and most others are led to believe the leather on the dash, door cappings and seats is actually real leather. It certainly looks like it anyway.
I won't be putting anything on vinyl look alike stuff if I can help it.

Have a look at the Bowdens leather cleaning products. I moved to Bowdens from Autoglym which is also good but I think the Bowdens is better. They have a good explanation of the products on their website.

I use Gliptone on Lady Penelope's delicate hides. :) It’s a well respected product in classic car circles. Roadbend in Welshpool stock it and you can get it in litr bottles. Their leather cleaning product is also very good.

cheers

I use this. I got it a couple of months ago and finally got around to using it today! I couldn’t believe how dirty my seat was and it certainly softened the seats up. Very easy to use too. Very impressed with the way they came up. (The car is just over 18m old and has done 25k)

Obvious, but the righthand side (closest) is Mothers cleaned and conditioned and the left side of the seat is how I acquired the vehicle.

I have been told that Bowdens have put a lot of R & D into their products and their leather cleaning products are second to none.

Beeswax actually conditions the leather. Some products just put on a glossy surface shine.

Been using the Meguirs Gold Class rich leather cleaner and conditioner for the last 3 years on ours and it is excellent. Dash, steering wheel, door trim and seats are looking in excellent condition despite all our outback travels. Not greasy so no slip which is great for the steering wheel

x2 What he said!
I don't have experience with any other leather cleaners (first car with leather interior!), but I've been using Meguirs Gold Class rich leather cleaner since I've had the D4 (about 5+ years), and it works a treat. Gets dirt off, looks good, seems to protect...

x3 Meguiars gold class isn't cheap to buy, but a little goes a long way and it seems to have looked after my car interior well for a few years now.

Probably cheaper in the long run buying a quality product. I went for the Autoglym when someone recommended it but for the dash at least I don't like it. That's the part which is going to be subject to the most sun so I want it well protected.
Thnx. all for your contributions, much food for thought there but Meguries it looks like for me.
Cheers.

Yep agree. Just purchased a replacement at Repco today for $27 so $9 per year or .75C per month with enough left in the current container for the front seats at least.

Been using Meguires (yellow wax back then) since I purchased my first car back in 1970. So I'm either slow to change or, having tried plenty of others (generally once and suffered serious performance disappointment) we have stuck with a good thing

Is the dash leather or synthetic?, the decision seems split

The binnacle housing over the instruments looks definitely synthetic but right along the dash top is all leather...... I think. :-)
I've used Meguires products on the body so will do the same inside and see how we go. Certainly don't like the white "ash" type residue which comes up from using the Autoglym.
Thnx.

Never experienced the white residue with the stuff we use and yes the dash top, window sills and armrests on our D4 are leather as well as the seats

Earlier this year our family purchased a Discovery 3 (2008), the leather was good, not great. I have been using "Leather Honey" purchased through ebay, an American product, that looks and feels like honey. It only takes a few drops to treat a seat, but it takes more than 24 hours to soak into the leather (on a warm day). The condition of the leather has come back to a really good condition over the last few months, applying once every few weeks. The leather texture has come back on the front seats and they are starting to feel like new again, great product, highly recommend using this.

I use Meguires also. I was in supacheap once about to purchase another brand and the rep from Meguires saw me. He pointed out the Meguires was better as it didn't leave white marks in perforated leather like on my old D2 ES.
I used another brand once before, but when I hit the brakes, I was lucky the seat belt kept me in the seat.

Alas, you get wot ya pays fur, usually! - Bowdens or the big M. In my limited experience.
Yes, beeswax is the expensive active ingredient, and where skimping will occur on 'budget' brands

We have the full leather interior and the dash top is definitely leather along with the armrest pads and the pads on top of the doors. Per other comment the instrument binnacle is not and should be easy to spot the difference in look, touch and feel.

Can't comment on any other fitouts

So can beeswax in its natural state be used? By that I mean as used by bee keepers and not incorporated in a cleaning product.

Sorry , will probably offend someone but would only ever use good quality leather cleaners and conditioners in a car. Beeswax may be fine on my hiking boots, Snowseal, but not where I sit. Too many residuals which tend to get in the way and become problems in their own right over time in my experience.

I did the same as you Scott and couldn't be happier with the Bowdens product.

This thread has prompted me to put in a request for some Bowdens products from Santa... The D4 is the 3rd vehicle I've owned with a leather interior, but it will be the first to receive any leather treatment - I hope at 135K it's not too late!

The Bowden's store their car collection across the creek from me. I am not a V8 fan but my mate is. When I complain to him about the cars revving he say the V8 sound should be music to my ears! Among Bowden's stable of cars are ones once owned by Dick Johnson and the like. The Bowdens went into car care products in 2002.

For those that are interested, here is their story:

Have no idea, but the gut feeling is.... "Not a Good Idea", - for reasons later expressed. (Spare tyre is still...substantial,, wherefore I do not argue with it !)

Usually an ingredient / component of the manufactured product.

How well the various ingredients work together is more important than the mere 'halo' effect of a Magic substance.
