After the rain the other night I found these tracks down near the horse paddock. Bloody big dog I think. Might have to load the Adler with slugs for this one[bigsmile1]

The trouble with these buggers is all you ever see usually are prints and wounded/dead stock.
I was called upon by my neighbour to shoot a huge pit bull that had killed a dozen or so lambs a couple of years ago that he had tied up to a fence.
It was gone when we got back there But as it wasn't feral it didn't have the "Smarts" so we eventually found it, It's a different story with wild dogs though.

Might be cat tracks. They were a bit older before the last downpour.

Yes, they sneak around at night too.
about 10 yrs ago we had one around here. I built a dog trap and eventually got him . A big Bull Mastiff.
I will set the trap again and see what happens. By the size of the print it could be another.

Western Queensland graziers are permitted to shoot any stray dog on their properties. And they do too.

Do you have a trail cam?

A mate of mine has a very successful side line around Warwick in trapping dogs for cockies.
Bloody things are everywhere.

I am pretty sure that rule applies in the rural areas Australia wide, If you find a dog that is causing problems or maiming/killing stock on your property you are not only allowed to get rid of it you are required to do so as it is likely that it isn't only your property that the animal is impacting on.
I even had to shoot my own dog on one occasion because it was killing lambs.
If you are having problems with dogs that you can't track/shoot then baiting them is Very effective.

The property we are often at,in western Qld,they are shot on sight, then hung on the nearest fence.

Similar to what someone else said, there is a guy in the area that makes a very good living trapping dogs for the local property owners.

They also bait with 1080 regularly, which ha s also reduced the numbers of foxes and cats.

Speaking of trail cams,
One of my Colleagues who works in Oil Palm in Sumatra has fantastic footage of a Tiger that regularly appears. They know its the same one as it has lost a paw to a snare.
The trail cams are there to identify poachers and take the necessary action.
They don't tell our green brethren about such sightings, as it only increases sticky beak tourism.

Send the green brethren to Port Moresby[bighmmm]
I didnt see it but apparently there was a good doco on SBS with footage of car hijackings and cut throats etc.
Seems its got the worst reputation in the world now.
I was in Mt Hagen in the 60,s and did in service training courses in P.M. and it wasnt that bad. Normal Highlander versus Pap crap but it sounds bad now.

I did 5 years in Pom recently, much media exaggeration, but there certainly are issues, by all accounts better than the 80.s.
Mind you i did drive around with two rotties and a boxer, windows down, had no dramas. House in middle of settlement (slum) no dramas [bighmmm]

If you integrate your normally ok, if you alienate the locals your on your own.
