View Full Version : The Height Difference between the Front & Rear of a 110 Defender Tdi300 Wagon?

Gents,
About 6months ago or so I installed new Coils/shocks under my Defender. I bought Les Richmond's Coils (180 Orange for the front / 320 Green/Orange for the Rear). At the time it sat beautifully but since then I've installed a Winch/Steel Bullbar and a Roofrack; 3 Awnings and a internal Storage system in the rear. I'm yet to install a RHS Sill Fuel Tank
The vehicle is now sitting fairly level with only 5>10mm height difference between the Front and Rear but I also have a 10mm height Difference at the rear between the RHS & LHS with the RHS being 10mm higher - Is this normal?
My Question is what Height Difference should there be between the Front and Rear of the Vehicle? I'm concerned for we I load up the Defender when we head away that it's going to sit too low in the rear end. I was thinking of installing some coil spacers to get the righ level between the front and rear.... maybe a 20/25mm spacer in the rear??? Thoughts???

Where are you taking the measurements from? Bumpstop to axle or ground to flare??
You need that Sill tank installed first than I say load it up to touring weight including bodies and go from there....
Having coils all round defiantly makes the car sit at different angle more so than leaf doing cars 
The left to right heights I would play with positioning the load
The front to rear
- spacers would work but will your rear spring be too soft?
- maybe higher rated springs for the rear
- or installed air bag helpers which will allow you to level the car left to right and raise it a little
- I’ve installed air springs, not everybody cup of tea it the solution works for me.

You need that Sill tank installed first than I say load it up to touring weight including bodies and go from there.... This was what I had planned before doing anything but I was curious as to if there was a "standard height" difference Front to Back....

The left to right heights I would play with positioning the load --- The difference side to side "may" be fixed once the Sill Tank is installed......
The front to rear
- spacers would work but will your rear spring be too soft? --- Currently leaning towards this way but will see once vehicle is fully packed to actual work out spacer size req'd....
- maybe higher rated springs for the rear  --- I actually ordered the highest Spring rated coil listed on the Les Richmond Website, the next heaviest was a Custom made coil......
- or installed air bag helpers which will allow you to level the car left to right and raise it a little

I'll follow this with interest Rob.
I'm leaning toward the airbag solution on mine as I have such variation in load generally, and if I sort a slide on type box, much load will often be removed when tackling the tricky stuff.
However, at this point, I'm patching together a camping setup for Tassie for the 130 from my varied collection of kit off the past 3 vehicles. 1x work toolbox, 1x foldout cooker box, 1x triple jerry can holder, a 60l water tank, a bike mount & possibly just leaving the fridge on the tray.
I just haven't had any time to do anything else! 
It will work ok for this trip as I don't expect many corrugations, very rough roads or lack of water. 
I went up to Greg at Get It in Tuggerah and spent a few quality hours with him fitting a low coolant alarm, new rocker cover gasket, downpipe and brake booster. 
Still to do before Tassie: rev camera, snorkel, dash cam, and fitting all the boxes etc to the tray [emoji51] 
After I finish these 2 work jobs.....
