Hi people's. You have probably flogged this topic to death in previous posts, but I am not that 'puter literate so please bear with me. I am trying to find out what the MAX egt's that are considered 'safe' for a 300TDI? Currently running 650C but spike to 700C. I am running double intercooled (factory plus water to air) and 18PSI using standard turbo. Can anyone offer any help. Ta.

There's a bloke on here who makes instruments for monitoring your EGT's - I think his name is Ian.
Anyway have a look at his website and drop him a mail and he'll be able to help you - he has done lots of research on the subject.

Quick question - where did you get the water-to-air intercooler setup and how well does it appear to work?

generally, @ 720*C is considered the maximum safe limit for pretty much any diesel, measured before the turbo, and FWIW, I've seen a stock 300Tdi hit 623*C on a long climb.
this is copied from Ian Petersens excellent Tdi tuning pamphlet.

NICE one - what sort of power / torque you getting?

Thanks everyone for the info so far. The system I am using is a 4"x10" 'PWR' barrel cooler with a 10" water radiator. I have not had it on a dyno but I can certainly feel the power difference. I can now pull a 16' c/van up hills at 90-95 where it used to be 70Kph. Obviously, while you are making more power you use more fuel but without the van and with roof racks fitted I am still in the 9K's/ litre. I have a little bit more tuning to do to get it right but I am very happy with it so far. I intend to monitor the inlet air temps closely over the next few weeks which will help with the tuning. I have blocked off the standard air inlet to the manifold and welded another air inlet at the back of the manifold. This has allowed me to flow the air from the oe intercooler thru the barrel and into the manifold without too much plumbing or upsetting the air flow.
To answer a question raised, any diesel (turbo or N/A) can run high egt's this would include TD5's. EGT's rise if you overfuel.

Just watch your boost rthere Turtle... I was running 17psi for a while and recently encountered head gasket problems. Also, my EGT never see's above 600 and thats with the fuel pump optimised.
Another Q... where did you mount the 10" water rad for the second intercooler? Was it an off the shelf system? If so, how much?
