If this article is correct, I fear the Defender is doomed. It's just a LR Discovery/Ford Territory/Jaguar F Pace.
Sometimes a manufacturer needs a hero product which may not make them money, but is the essence of what the brand is about. The Defender for me was that car for LR.

The fact they're set solely on economics for this car by using the same platform they use for all the others tells me the owners don't understand what they bought when they bought Land Rover.

While I'm not a Jeep fan, I love how they continue to develop the Wrangler as it's their hero car. It's what people picture in their heads when they think Jeep.

Toyota did a fair job with the FJ Cruiser to bring back some of the old Land cruiser nostalgia, again a hero product... and they built that in a Prado platform!

I hope this article is false..

Thanks for putting up the article, which was well put together, and I enjoyed reading it.
BUT, no-one should get "excited" by it, because in reality it is simply a combination of stuff which has already appeared in the press many times over the last 12 months or so.
No-one really knows anything factual about the "New" Defender, except the design crew at Solihull.

Same old rubbish dredged up yet again, the FJ is a pile of junk and i hope the new Defender is nothing like it - makes a Ssang Yong look pretty.

I've worked with McGovern and there's no way he could design a true Defender, let alone drive one. He might get mud on his handmade shoes and Saville Row suits. That's why the cars have been becoming more and more West Coast Bling.

Why did you post this **** in the Land Rover history thread?
This belongs in the Defender thread.
No it doesn't, is there a rubbish thread?

If they are targetting "sub Sahara Africa", and they plan to sell in the UK, at least that means there will be a RHD version, which holds out hope for an Oz version as well.
