Hi there,

We purchased a Disco 3 2007 MY08 1 year ago. Since having it we have had many issues with the first being the Engine System Faulty which was diagnosed by 3 different mechanics including LR who stated that the High Pressure Fuel pump needed to be replaced. So while trying to save to have this issue repaired, we had the Suspension, Transmission, HDC, Engine System Fault and Park Break Light Faulty warnings appearing every time we tried to pick up speed which was then putting us into limp mode and we had to pull over and restart the car again. Once we repaired the HPFP by LR i asked if the vehicle wont go into limp mode again seeing that was the issue was repaired, and to my surprise LR said "Well it went into limp mode after we took it for a run once the repair was done":mad::mad:UM Ok so ive just spent thousands of dollars on a part they told me needed replacing and yet the vehicle was still not fixed. I have no idea what to do. Now with all these existing faulty warnings still appearing I dont know what other options I could try without spending more thousands of dollars to repair it all and the car still goes into limp mode. They then did another diagnosis and said i needed the compressor replaced and transmission as well..When all along they told me only the High Pressure Fuel Pump is the one that needed repairing. Can someone please give me any advice???
Also when we start up the vehicle the amber suspension light appears and makes a bell sound. so i turn it off then restart the car and it does the same thing and then on the 3rd go at restarting its ok. Why does it do this? and sometimes when i start it up it says "Special features unavailable normal height selected"(or something along the lines of that)

PLEASE HELP!!!! I have no idea about cars and I just find this vehicle just a headache. Within 1 year of owning it im looking at spending over $10,000 to fix it up.

To really know you need to read the error codes associated with your suspension. However, your suspension compressor is most likely a bit tired and the drier probably partially blocked. The result being it does not bring the system up to pressure within the required time frame - possibly why you get warning lights which go away after a few start cycles.

When it does finally get up to pressure its hot and bothered and wants a rest - possibly why you sometimes get "Special features unavailable normal height selected"

It is a fairly common problem with vehicles with some age on them. LR will not sell parts to overhaul the compressor, only the complete new compressor at a cost you probably don't wont to know about.

However, you can buy kits to overhaul and refurbish the compressor from 3rd parties for less than $150, for instance:

For Land Rover Discovery 3 4 Range Rover Sport Hitachi Air Compressor Repair | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/For-Land-Rover-Discovery-3-4-Range-Rover-Sport-Hitachi-Air-Compressor-Repair-/221613451815?rmvSB=true)

Is your vehicles air suspension rising slowly, noisily, or perhaps failing to rise at all? EAS Amber light lit? Fault code C1A20, C1A1364, C50, or C1A20-64 showing? One or more of these errors: 'Suspension error only normal height available' 'Suspension fault; pressure not rising quick enough' Or 'Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery'?

You need only basic tools and skills to carry out the overhaul using this kit. You will find detailed videos on the internet of how to go about it plus there some threads in AULRO on the compressor overhaul.

I have used the kit - it's very good.

Now having said all the above, in my experience, these kinds of compressor problems do not on their own cause the vehicle to go into limp mode. So there are other factors at play here. Somebody in your area may have an error code reading tool which might help in pointing you in the right direction.

First priority is to find a mechanic that knows what they're doing too!

Check the battery condition and all the earth connections. Wouldn't be the first time thousands has been spent chasing problems that relate to one or the other.

Sadly the other faults are possibly seperate issues... how many km has it done? Has it ever had a transmission service? Is it still the original compressor? How old are the battery and alternator?
A poorly maintained tdv6 d3 can be a nightmare. It is possible that it has had lots of neglect prior to you buying it.
And 100% find an independent service company that knows these vehicles well!

I recently replaced the drier desicant in my suspension compressor after getting the "pressure does not decrease when venting" fault. That fault gave a random yellow suspension fault quite often, which sometimes cleared and sometimes did not. The old desicant was turning to dust and getting into the valves - havent had an issue since replacing it.

But you really need the fault codes to narrow the issue as the warning lights and error messages can be related to lots of different fautls that all give similar messages on the dash

Check the basics first. Battery, brake light globes, brake light switch, alternator.
Good electrical is the first priority. You hear it all the time, the more random the errors the more likely it's electrical.

Yes the OP will not know about the randomness of why a dodgy brake light globe affects seemingly unrelated systems.

Hi Madaz, had exactly the same issues, couple months ago, I was told that I needed a compressor and a HPFP. Warranty wouldn’t cover compressor, and only $750 towards HPFP.
The car was having slow to raise errors since I bought it, but I was now getting multiple engine / trans related errors, and car goes into limp mode.
Happened 3 times in one day, when I eventually took it back to the independent.
I opted to carry out the comp repair first, and see how we go. I have a theory that the car going into limp mode, is what gives the low pressure indication on the pump, not the low pressure causing the limp mode. Anyway that was 2 months ago, so far so good and we are currently interstate....

I have a theory that’s the HP

If anyone can help

thanks

Hi, just wondering if you had any luck fixing the issue, I’ve got similar issues with mine going into limp mode, I have replaced the high pressure fuel pump and it’s still going into limp mode. Thanks Andrew

There are a plethora of threads diagnosing this one right around the block. Start with listing the fault codes (all of them, with the suffix).
On these cars, "Limp" mode is a pretty broad brush. Starting a new thread with all the relevant information is probably a good start too.
