Gday All,

i just drove a 3 trailer road train from Darwin - Winton (Qld) - Normanton (Qld ) and I am amazed at what I have seen in the last 3 days . I been overtaken on hills , blind corners , straight stretches of road where the sun is in your eyes so bad you can't see 50 feet in front , but yet round they come . I could shake my head when it's only 1 car but then you get cars behind follow them thru .

hopefully the trip back see's a bit more people driving with their brain in gear as well as their car.

Stay safe on the roads people , a bit late is better than never.

Cherrs Ean

I hear and feel your pain. Everyone can get a license but not everyone can drive!!

Not just out on the highway . I was overtaken in a school zone the other week , Einstein was fully in the opposite side of the road and kiddies about . Yesterday an L plater in a driving school car went through a posted roadworks easily still on 60 ks. No sign of intent to slow . Now a days if I can avoid driving I will , feet or the train do me fine.

Dunno about up there, but mostly road trains are limited to 90. And, no, it is NOT our responsibility to let you past. Do it when it is safe.

100 in the NT , 90 in Qld.

i have no issues when it's safe like you say sadly it will be someone doing the right thing that gets cleaned up.

Re: 90km/hr in QLD, Interesting observation is that

In and around Mt Isa they all sit on 90km/hr.

Around Miles they all sit on 100km/hr.......eventually.....when they get there.

AB Triples, which there are a lot hauling cattle I assume they should be rolling at 90km/hr?

Yeah, they do. They shouldn't, and they shouldn't be able to. The PM is 'supposed' to be limited, but they rarely are, as they may also be used to tow something else. I reckon the coppers turn a blind eye out there ( fine by me ). Try it on the Cunningham and see how you go though. [/QUOTE]

Unwritten rule in Queensland, no dramas up to and including 100k but get caught at 101 and you get done for 11 over.

If you do get done, Ian, do they defect the truck?

There's always stories here (WA) in the local rag about Indian Ocean Drive being dangerous because of the accident/death rate. But it's not the road and no amount of millions thrown at it in "improvements" will stop the idiots killing themselves and others.
Not so long ago the Cook and I were heading north up the IOD and passed a cop who was writing a ticket for a driver of a red Camry and not 20 minutes later this same car came past us over double whites less than a 100 metres before a totally blind right hander!
Nothing is going to stop idiots like this or the bloke who very recently got booked for the 8th time of driving while under suspension/restricted license .....and booked for being under the influence of drugs.

Had a p plate navara 4wd spanker on the Hume saturday approaching the ring road southbound :censored:

Im in the right lane about to pass a Semi him about 99 km/h me about 104 km/h and this spanker come`s flying up behind me flicks into the left lane up the butt of the semi then puts his R/indicator on even tho there was no room for him he proceeded to merge right :bat:

Now i could just read what this tool was going to do and the nasty thought`s i was thinking just got out weighed by my moral conscience of attending the coroners court [bighmmm]

So i braked heavily and received the bird for my moral conscience :wallbash:

Yeah i know what i should or could have done but honestly i wanted to make it home safely as i do every trip .
I see these tools every day but im sure as hell im going to make it home safely [wink11]

Brisbane and Sydney Fish Markets. Wouldn't be a good look with the rear trailer doors open and tubs of fish getting passed out at places along the highway. [bighmmm][bighmmm]

I dunno. Seems like I've seen it before with a meatworks truck.

It seems fuel is the thing of choice these days , got approached at the IOR on the way down and back to see if I wanted to swap some cash for diesel. I was amazed at how brazen some people are.

Truth be known its been going on for ages its just that part time drivers like me don't drive enough to experience it.

Back on topic, the country could save a fortune in paint and line marking as no one seems to know what double white lines mean. Maybe they don't teach it any more.

My late Dad had a name for these type of idiots that drive without any regard for their own safety and the safety of others, He called them "Temporary Australians".

So here's another cause of road deaths.

I saw on the news the driver of the car that veered onto the wrong side of the Princes Highway near Sussex Inlet and killed 4 people had his license disqualified on numerous occasions and was on his way back from a methadone clinic when he had the accident.

What hope have law abiding and careful drivers got when these people are allowed on the road. I suppose the right to not impinge on his rights over-rules society's expectation to go about our daily lives without the fear of some imbo killing them

Unfortunately, the road statistics show that unlicensed and/or unregistered drivers are shockingly over-represented in fatal accidents. So yeah, keep busting the average driver for going 2kmph over the speed limit and treating them like criminals, while at the same time letting those other irresponsible clowns share our roads. The system is seriously flawed.

Asking a disqualified driver to not drive his car is like asking someone not use their mobile phone and letting them keep it - it just won't work. We need to wheel lock or impound their vehicles and also change the law to say that if anyone else lets a disqualified driver use their car and the driver is caught then their car is also locked up.

We need to get tougher and stop letting the bleeding heart brigade keep dictating the way the laws should be formulated and imposed.

This bloke that caused the accident had been jailed on a number of occasions for driving matters. When does a person go past the "Can be rehabilitated" to "no hope for this one" state. Surely putting these people employed by the state to do meaningful community type works under proper supervision would be a better use of public funds that just locking them up then letting them go so the whole cycle can start all over again or worse, like in this case, lead to the death of a whole innocent family.

Rant over

There's a case going on here in WA at the mo where a constant offender is being charged yet again for driving "with no authority to drive". Official type speak for no licence....
He killed a young girl about 15 years ago when blind drunk but got off that charge because even if sober he couldn't have avoided her. Since then he has had numerous charges and licence withdrawals but keeps driving.
Why don't we just leg band them and stop them leaving home for the hours between 1800 and 0600 every day? If any of their "mates" let them drive a vehicle just crush it.
Or would that be against the ******* human rights?

This man did not have to face court, because the wrong charge was laid.

Looks like a loose control incident (maybe on the phone) rather than an ill considered overtaking move - but hard to say.

I agree. Only a maniac would try to pass on a corner with double lines. It was not his first offence. But that means little in this occasion.
