Puma electrical issue

Hi all, this morning I started the car and left home, a few minutes in I realised the stereo was not on and the air-conditioning blower wasn't. After checking it out I have found that all is ok in position 2 of the ignition switch, but when I go to 3 or start the car the air con blower, cigar lighter and stereo have no power. It's a 2010 puma wagon.
If anyone has any ideas that would be great, I'm heading out to Gordon Country boxing day so starting to stress.

A quick update, I removed the plastic shroud from the steering column and got a bit of access to the ignition switch, it seems a bit of pressure on the green wire, I think it was green! Powered up the accessories, it would go off again once the pressures removed. I managed to get the spade connector off and back on again with a lot of pressure and the power is staying on, going for a drive so will see. Thinking the wire was loose or there is a fault in the ignition switch, might just have to drive with a bit of wood pushing against the cables to keep the blower working until after Xmas.

Not unheard of. Consider ordering a new assembly before it stops completely.

I had exactly the same issue, 45 degrees, back QLD and no aircon, radio or Cigarette lighter (GPS). Took dash apart and could wriggle wires and get it working but realise problem is somewhere near steering column.
I have heard ignition switch can fail, has anyone else had this problem?

I had my barrel lock up on me last year while on a remote beach on the west coast. Not a fun feeling. Put a new barrel in all good until about 6 months later the ignition switch went. 2007 puma so it's a pain of a job.

My one lost power again the other day, so only once since it happened at Christmas, I still have the steering shroud off so can put my hand into the back of the ignition switch, a bit of a push and it came back, I definitely think the problem is in the ignition switch or at the rear of it. I am taking Tombie's advice and will order another one, I get the feeling the key is sticking sometimes also so maybe now is a good time to do it.

Guys. How many keys are on your key ring?
This is a known cause of damage to these locks.

We use a mini-carabiner to link our keys and separate the key and fob from other keys when in the Defender.

Never had a lock issue on any vehicle by doing this.

Yep, driving with wife and kids, stereo momentarily switched off. Thought the wife had changed the song but she hadn't touched it. Then smelt something electrical burning. Everyone out of the car so i could asses the situation and make sure everything was we weren't going to burst into flames, couldn't find anything wrong. Car started fine but then wouldn't start next time tried. found that by jiggling the barrel i could get it to start most times. Did some research on Defender2 and here to find out that burnt out ignition barrels are pretty common, just the switch section of the ignition barrel can be changed out so all keys can remain the same.

Looks like this is the part just for the switch, will need to source it locally but there seem to be a few around.

Got one of those, look a bit different to OEM. The one in the barrel is all metallic. Suppose will do the job. Talk about redundancy [biggrin]
