Well my IIDTool finally paid for itself this week. Made a little mistake on The Bluff track out past Lovick’s Hut. Was heading up a rough climb in 2nd and needed 1st for a rock step in the middle of it and stalled. Had trouble re-starting it and engine light came on and went into limp-home mode.

I managed to get it up the rest of the climb and once at the top plugged in the IIDTool and checked for faults. It had thrown up 2 fault codes, one a crank angle position sensor out of range, the other a fuel rail pressure problem. Was able to clear the faults and carry on without any problems.

I bought the IIDTool when I had the D3 and have never used it in anger before, either on the D3 or the D4. Without it though I’d have been limping out and flat-bedding it to Albury - all from a silly little mistake.

Money well spent now as it meant we could have 5 days in the High Country with the place to ourselves - heaven. Today the crowds started building as we headed out over Mt Pinnibar to Tom Groggin, so glad to be leaving them behind.

As simple as they are, some type of fault code reader is essential kit for a Puma.

Cheers,
Jon
