Woohoo found a new leak!! [emoji16]
So I've been monitoring my Disco like a hawk and the leaks have been pretty much nothing, then after being parked on my dad's nice clean brick driveway (because I told him it's leak free now...Silly me angered the gods) it left a pretty big oil leak all over it after only half an hour. Then when I got under it after driving it next I could see it actively dripping as I watched, kinda coming off the bottom of the motor, also maybe at the bottom of an oil cooler hose connected to the oil filter, then after cleaning everything up and driving again noticed oil dripping again but all those bits were clean...Except from behind the fuel pump which was pretty well soaked. Now I didn't clean this up before driving, but it's really wet behind there. The fuel pump was one of the new things replaced in my recent work I had done. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/12/757.jpg
There doesn't seem to be any fuel leaks and I had a sniff of the dipstick and no smell of diesel there or if I run my fingers around the bottom of the fuel pump, plenty of oil though.

That's where it was coming to and dripping off.
Anyone else think this may be some other sinister nonsense or did it look pretty clear cut as a buggered gasket behind the fuel pump?

Taking a second look it does seem to be the lift pump leaking[wink11]

feel around the lift pump.
It is probably fuel.
Wouldnt be terribly surprising given what you have said about it.

I'll have another look but pretty sure it's not fuel, had a feel and then a smell and no fuel smell to be had...so for now it's just oil but I'll check again in case it's fuel.

Are the lift pump mounting bolts tight?

No idea actually I just assumed they were on tight enough and the gasket may be stuffed... Guess that's a pretty good thing to check before jumping to conclusions [emoji846]
Cheers for that, I'll check in the morning.

Oil cooler lines eventually leak at the crimps. Degrease, go for a run and then feel for oil arounds the unions.

This is a pretty major leak so while there looked like there was a small bit of oil beneath the cooler hoses that probably isn't what I'm looking for, although would be nice to stop that too if it's leaking.
This big one I think is coming from the fuel pump but I'll get a look at it this morning with some tools and see if it's loose, but I'll be surprised if it is. Suspecting a bung gasket, but I think the pump itself is probably okay by the looks and smell of things so far.

Hmm just ran my fingers under the fuel filter and after cleaning it and driving it it's now a but wet and a bit of a diesel smell...That's bad right?

yep. It can look like oil after running down the side of the block accumulating old oil and dirt..but even in the pic it looks to 'thin' to be oil.
get a new one from Mario. He doesnt sell rubbish.
At least if that is what it is it is a cheap, if a bit fiddly, fix.

Back of rocker cover can leak and come down to bellhousing like yours and very hard to detect. Mine does that.

Check the easy/usuals first. Oil filter seal, and leaking/damaged oil lines.
If fuel, check fuel lines and filters.
Process of elimination will lead you to the cause.

We the OEM pump was faulty causing the leak, it was leaking from the lever pin , evident when I crawled under neath with a torch. so we have replaced the part under warranty. Angus and I fitted a Delphi pump instead so all should be good now.
Cheers, Mario

Get a few cans of that cheap degreaser from supercheap and give the entire engine top to bottom a very good clean to remove ALL the oil/fuel/gunk deposits , Use some clean rags to remove any muck that wasn't removed by the degreaser then run the engine and look underneath to see "Exactly" where the leak is coming from.
This will eliminate the "Guesswork" and you will know "Exactly" where the problem lies [thumbsupbig]

Like Mario has already said it was leaking oil from the base of the priming lever, no oil in this photo but it sure was coming from there. He helped me put the new one on and didn't even need to prime it just fired her up and away she went. Drove five minutes to my sister's place and didn't conk out and no more oil leaks so looks like that was the culprit.
Thanks Mario, fantastic bloke and stands by his products all the way, even helped me change it over and Heather made me a cuppa so all round just a lovely way to spend a Wednesday morning in the hills.
I'll have a good look after the longer drive home but we are pretty certain that was it.

I'm guessing the new pump's priming lever doesn't flap about wildly either? :D
.. and has it helped to solve the rattly/vibration noise too?

The Delphi pump we used to replace the OEM one has a spring that holds the lever see pic. The O.E.M ones don't have the same arrangement.

Ah! ... that's the type that's on mine.
More of a dalek looking shape compared to what I remember Ben had, when we noticed it leaking.

Haha dalek fuel pump, that is what it looks like! The lever definitely doesn't flap around like on the old one but I had out my old OLD fuel pump which was the same OEM type as the one I first had fitted and its lever wasn't that easy to flap around either, so I think the pump must have just been a problem item.
There was a little noise that was coming from the pump lever but that stopped as soon as we stowed it into its proper position the other day Arthur, I'm still hearing a lot of that chuffing noise that could be the exhaust, could just be the engine because the rest of the car is quieter than most, but as all of you as my witness I WILL FIND THAT NOISE ONE DAY AND PROVE TO EVERYONE THAT I'M NOT CRAZY!!!

Tell me about it!!
Great news too Mario, no more oil leak and my car is still running so all is well :D
I picked my Dad up from the station this afternoon and the first thing he did was look under the car...he then asked me if I had just drained all the oil out so there was none left hahaha
