It goes along with the g/box problems I've been hearing lots about. Makes a Landy owner feel just a little better.....

****loads better
All makes have issues, Toyota seems to be able to keep it all quiet and fool the buying public into a false sense that they are buying a 'indestructable' 4WD.

those that aren't members, register, there are some excellent people on the Rover board there. (including a number of regulars here https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ )
Anyway, here's a sample from the thread...

Agreed. My beef with both OL and Overlander is that people take everything too persoanlly. You can't take the **** out oof anyone in a light-hearted way without an internet 'blue'.
I rarely go into the general chat/tech sections on OL. I stick to primarily the Rover section, sometime venture into the trips section and classifides.

Apparently the Oracles state that if its a Toyota/Nissan, then despite the 1000's of failures, it only under a combination of extra extreme conditions if the servicing isn't right and still in highly rare cases. Like the Patrol 3.0Tdi blowing up, like the LC80 TD bottom end failures, like the Hilux 3.0TD engines, like the LC80 and LC100 front diffs, like the Patrol chassis cracking, like the LC100 IFS wishbones fracturing and CV's snapping.
But the comeback is that Landys are unrealiable because in the 40's they dropped some oil and pre 94 broke half shafts and their grandfathers told them so, so there. Today its all about LandRover proving themselves in the long run as reliablilty is a question. What a joke. Then there is TD5 injectors cost $2Kea... ok, who's ever needed to replace one?
Hmmm, funny though.... apparently you have to get a Toyota or Nissan for reliability and strength. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Dare I state that on another forum.

This is probably worthy of a new topic so forgive the hijack/diversion.
My eldest son (Jono) has two mates, one a plumber (Mazda Bravo) and the other a miscreant (V8 Cruiser)
Tonight Jono has volunteered me (at their request) to give them some introductory lessons in off road driving.
I can scarcely hide my vehicle prejudice or ignore the flattery but it will be a challenge and I will accept it because regardless of the make there is much to be learned.
At least the eleven year old Land Rover can lead the way.

The other forum isn't helped by the views of the Overlander Editor who bags the D3 TDV6 in his editorial in the latest edition because the car stopped due to snow build-up in the air intake during a blizzard.
A snorkel would have prevented the problem. You don't see him bagging toymotas or missins when they drown after driving into metre deep water, when a snorkel might have saved the day also!
I suppose at the end of the day, the mag is there to make money. The demographics show that the predominant reader drives a Patrol. If you want to keep making money, you have to kowtow to your main market.

The Overlander Editor seems really likes the current crop of Landies. The only one that I've not heard him speak about is the Freelander.

1978 Range Rover still going strong with same donk it's had since 1978 https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .
Who needs new cars anyway?. You can't work on em and they are built with a life expectancy of only a few years!!!!.
Old '48 Landies will still be chugging along well after all the new crud has been turned into VB cans  .
Plus all the others rust big time!.
