300Tdi Aircon leaking in footwell

After getting the aircon working after a couple of years, most of the water seems to be escaping properly, but I'm getting water in the passenger footwell. I've check the 2 drains that combine to go through the footwell, which seemed to be clear. Anything else I should check?

Also, a lot of condensation all the way across the ducting - I assume this is normal in humid conditions?

Having just brought a Defender with A/C, mine does same.

check that the drains are not collapsed inside, pinched or perished. A piece of whipper snipper string stuck up them from the bottom will ascertain if they are blocked or collapsed. Don't use anything metallic

My a/c doesn't work anymore but from memory the condensor lines run internally (ie under the passenger side dash) in aluminium pipes that are not insulated. This causes condensation on the external surface of these pipes that then drips into the footwell that is then absorbed by the padding/ underlay under the floor mats creating the perfect environment for rust. A totally incompetent person designed the layout.

Mine used to drip on the floor, until I sent for service to a local auto electrician. When it came back it worked much better, and the drains worked properly and dripped the water onto the road outside. I don't know exactly what was done to solve the leak problem, but it is solvable.

Most of the water drips outside, and the internal water seems to have lessened a fair bit after I reamed the drain pipes. I think that's the best I can expect for now.

If the drains do really block up you will get a sloshing sound when cornering and the AC will be crap due icing.

I had the same problem in my 1999 110 TD5.
I made a catch can from 100mm plastic pipe with end caps glued on (from Bunnings), cut it in half lengthways, drilled a hole in the centre of the trough and glued in a plastic elbow. Drilled a hole in the floor, attached hose to the elbow and routed it through the hole. It slides under the evaporator unit and sends any excess water to the floor.
No more wet footwell.

Is the metal pipe that runs through the firewall and connects to the back of the air con unit insulated? If not this need to be wrapped in either bitumen based tape or foam. I did this to mine and this stopped the condensation forming on the pipe.
