Gday All,
Been having some intermittent issues with our remote , so decided to show the boss how to use the key to unlock the D3. Got the user manual out and had a read and the first thing I noticed is our car locks and unlocks opposite to what the manual says. - guess being in the southern hemisphere they work opposite.
2nd thing I noticed is there is no mention of how to kill the alarm. The manual seems to be written for if you lock the car with the key , not the keyfob and then need to use the key to enter the car.
So ...
Does anyone know how to disable the alarm when you enter using the key ??? - and closing the door doesn't stop it.
Also has anyone changed the battery in the keyfob.?? I done a search but I couldn't find anything specific to the keyfob battery.
Cheers Ean

I was pretty sure the manual shows how you place the keyfob on the grill bit under the dash which is in the vicinity of the drivers side then press the start button? This enables the transponder to be powered within the keyfob to be read.

My D3 doesn't have a start button - or are you referring to the unlock button on the keyfob.
I see you have a D4 , maybe things are different between the 2 models.
Thanks for the reply.

EAN, I had to do this last week.
My alarm disarmed when I put key in ignition. I wasn't expecting the alarm to go off and scared a poor old lady at church[emoji28]
I did what any respectable man would do and pointed at my wife...[emoji41]
Anyway, let me know if you find out more on replacing battery. I've got one flat and one going flat. Want to make sure it's not needing another key to reset the other.(as the Peugeot does)

you can replace the battery with a 2032 and holder to suit , i get them from jaycar and get them to solder in the new holder, when it goes flat after a couple of years just replace with new battery, do you have a spare key or gap tool ?

It is an easy, DIY job. You just need a CR2032 'button' battery — available everywhere.
1. Slide off the silver side piece — push firmly in the direction of the small arrow on the side (push towards top of fob).
2. Remove key.
3. Pop apart the two-piece main unit.
4. Replace battery.
5. Re-assemble (remember, the arrow on the silver side piece goes towards the bottom of the fob — I normally try about 6 different combinations, which I think it mathematically not possible).
And a 2nd key is not needed to reset the key with the new battery

Thanks Gents, mine is also a D3, will have to have a look at the Gap tool manual.
Been "busy" on holidays.[emoji16]
Ean, did you get your battery changed?

The battery in the D3 fob is rechargable and recharges when the key is in the ignition. How does the 2032 battery like being in the recharge circuit - surely you can get the correct rechargeable battery for it somewhere. I swap my fobs around every few months so they stay recharged.
Ean - as mentioned when you unlock the car using the passenger door latch the alarm does go off (as you have found) but as mentioned putting the key in the ignition switches off the alarm and I guess more importantly the immobiliser.
Cheers

That key fob looks nothing like mine. Is that an after market type ?
Mine has 3 buttons below each other with the bottom button being a land rover logo. Its glued together and certainly wouldn't come apart that easy.

Sounds like the D3 is the same as the LR2 I had. Sealed and rechargeable that recharges when inserted into the console.

Yep I have a spare key which works but the buttons are starting to perish. I only have a hawkeye which wont program keys.

Yes , just seen a you tube vid of how to replace it and you basically destroy the old key housing getting the PCB board out and then un-solder and re-solder in a new rechargeable battery then refit it in a new case.
might have to dig the soldering iron out the toolbox.

My fault. This is my D4 key, but I thought it was the same as when I briefly had a D3. I guess not. Sorry. I must have enjoyed the holiday season too much!
Of course, for anyone who needs to replace a D4 key battery ...

Hi,
So does changing the battery require the key to be reprogrammed? I have a spare key that no longer locks or unlocks. I can have a go changing the battery but I don’t have a tool to reprogram.
Thanks,

Sorry cant help with that as I have never had an issue. Not sure if programming is lost when power is lost but might be worth while putting the key in the ignition for a while and seeing if the battery will recharge - not sure if the ignition has to be on or not - someone will know but I assume it will on accessory - maybe you could try unlocking the car with your good key and seeing if it will actually start using the flat one and if it does it will definitely be on charge if the battery is capable of retaining its charge.

Thanks, no worries. Yes I’ve tried that, key starts the car but buttons still aren’t working. I’m just guessing it’s the battery not charging.
Thanks anyway.

I just looked at my handbook - it says that the engine cannot be started without the remote control programmed to your vehicle - if you car started with the dud key this indicates that the key is still programmed to your car (maybe the battery is really low but not actually dead) - when the battery in the fob is low a "Key Battery Low" will be displayed in the message centre.
So when you said the key started the car did you then go for a drive to see if it got charged up - the handbook says the engine has to be running to recharge the key.
Unfortunately the handbook only refers you to see the dealer if there are issues such as damage/programming.

Thanks for doing that. Yes I took it for drive for at least an hour. Then tried to lock the car, but no response. I’m thinking of doing a DIY battery replacement, but I am under the impression that as soon as I remove the battery I will lose the programming.
Cheers,

Doesn't require reprogramming when changing battery , see my earlier post , its a cheaper option and the battery will still last for years

YouTube link for battery replace. Seems you'll likely have to damage the case to take apart (I haven't tried this)
Land Rover Key FOB Battery Change - YouTube (https://youtu.be/0YgpDWx-uH4)
I bought a complete unit with battery and chip from China (eBay) for about as much as just a battey. I have gap diagnostic tool to code them and my other keys are falling apart.
I haven't got them yet but will report back when I do.

If you're careful you can separate the two fob halves and replace the battery, programming will not be lost, but remember that afterwards it will no longer be waterproof.
i swap keys every month to keep them charged..
