Gday!
We have been in Tassie for the past 10 days, just doing the tourist thing as my mums been with us. She heads home today, so we now start camping.
Heading to Gordon dam/rivers area today for a few days then up the west coast through Arthur Pieman CP.
Will see how we are going for time after that but most likely head across to Derby for a couple of days mtb riding.
I bought a snorkel prior to leaving but have not been able to fit it up to now!
Question for locals or recently travelled crew through these areas: will I need a snorkel at this time of year?
Seems pretty dry so far but I don't want to gamble...
Travelling w my wife & 3 daughters (11,8,6 yo) if anyone's keen to do a few tracks with us.

Thanks
Col

Probably only if you plan to do the Balfour track
From The tassie parks site Parks & Wildlife Service - A Guide to 4WD Tracks in Tasmania (http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/indeX.aspX?base=7542#17)

The Balfour Track/Greenes Creek Road junction (Grid Ref 094288) is about 5 km south of Temma (Grid Ref 065329) and Balfour is 16 kms in an easterly direction from the junction. The Balfour Track is rated ‘hard’ because of a 70 metre long canal-like stretch of water along one section; otherwise the track is rated medium 4WD standard.

All vehicles using the Balfour Track require an Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area Recreational Driver Pass (available for purchase from the online Parks Shop, in-person from a Service Tasmania outlet, or visit the Parks office at Arthur River). Visitors are strongly advised to report to the Parks office at Arthur River to obtain advice on local conditions before starting their trip or see the latest track conditions page. Interesting features at Balfour are the unique settlement, historic cemetery and old mine sites.

Rather than exiting the area by the same route, there are two easy grade alternatives. Return along the Balfour Track to the Western Explorer Road junction and proceed north approximately 9 kms to the junction with Blackwater Rd (Grid Ref 206375). Take the left route to return to Arthur River via Temma Road (16 kms to Temma Road junction). Alternatively, turn right and travel 17 kms along Blackwater Road to Kanunnah Bridge. From here return up the sealed road to Smithton or take the alternate Forest Drive (track 20) to Roger River.

Regards,
Tote

Thanks Tote, I have Balfour track on my list, so I'll spend some time this arv and fit the snorkel.

Forget the Balfour track unless you want endless issues stemming from wading through deep abrasive loaded slurry.... i wouldn't take my vehicle anywhere near it after repairing many that have been through it...
