View Full Version : Puma 2.4 injector oil leak - cause for concern?

As suggested by another thread, I thought I'd take the plastic panel off the top of my engine to check around the injectors for oil leaks. And, lo and behold, one injector (number 3) has a slight leak around it. It's not an oil puddle, more of a greasy stain. It doesn't look recent, more something that's been slowly/very slightly weeping for a while. All other injectors look clean. And, the car is starting/running/idling fine, all weathers. It's a MY10 2.4 Puma 110, with about 115,000 km on it.

So:

- How urgently would this need attention? (yeah, I know, hard to say without seeing it, but your thoughts welcomed)
- Assuming it's the injector washer leaking, that I've read about in other threads, how much is it a DIY job?
- I assume the copper injector washers I've head mentioned on other threads are the ones to use? Any recommended sources?

As always, thanks in advance!

For removing the injectors you just need to unplug the cables and loosen the bolt in the middle of the clamp. Maybe you have to turn an injector a couple of times from left to right and back to get it out.
Before replacing anything, you need to clean the area, where the copper seal between injector and cylinder head is placed. There are special tools for this: 'injector seat cutter'. Furthermore you need to replace the copper seal and you should replace the rubber seals in the camshaft cover. The bolt of step one is an anti-fatigue bolt which must be replaced.
I would call it a DIY project.

But before you start, clean the area around the injectors, don't mount the top cover and have a look twice a week. If there's some oil leaking out you need to investige, if not mount the top cover and everything is fine.
