I'm sorry for the generality of the answer...but the issue of brands can turn into a Toyota versus Nissan vs Land Rover Debate. :roll:

The base position is the specification of the lubricant as recommended by the engineers at LR.

The brand must meet the specifications at least.

Here is an example of lubricants for a D1 from the RAVE workshop manual:

All lubricants should meet the specifications. If these aren't stated they should be rejected...but rules are meant to be broken :wink:
