I used QBE as they were the cheapest i got a quote from and i got quotes from GIO, NRMA, TCIS, AAMI and one or two others. AAMI was nearly $800 as the second cheapest with QBE being $655. The rest were over a grand. Matt

I have just insured my Disco 2 TD5 2003 with CGU. Were the cheapest at the time ($658 from memory). My Disco 1 1995 TDI is currently with RACV & its dearer than the new D2 ????? I will shop around when the D1 is due again.

Unfortunately, it has very little to do with the vehicle and more to do with yourself and your history, age, etc...
See a broker, or shop around or look up consumer / rating sites. What's in the policy is far more important than price....

i use oamps, i have a broker who works for vero that does all my
insurance. for my age and details(perfect driving history)
none of the ''name'' brands of insurance would really cover me offroad and with modifications, and preimums that wouldnt break the bank.
hence why im with oamps. cheapest by far and more comprehensive.
give mathew cosham a ring 03-98555445 and see what he can sort out.
hes a good honest bloke.
cheers phil
oh and here's a funny bit. i changed my policy details today from a modified 93 disco to my new 04 defender 90, and it went up $9.40 per year. which he waived, wasent worth re-writing a new policy for $10??

Do these policies define or qualify "off road" (usually in the fine pale blue print found on the back  )

also check to see if they will insure it offroad some main stream insurers
will only cover gravel roads to them that is off road any thing rougher and you will not be covered

I have CGU Insurance on both Disco's and the policy says that you are covered where ever the vehicle is capable of going
Rating 1
Disco 1 $580
Disco 2 $610

this is another reason for going with oamps bushtrack.
as long as im not competing, tresspasing or breaking the law im covered.
most only state public roads that are marked on a map.

We use AAMI because they've treated us well and were competitive.
AIA are good in Thailand but that doesn't help you... https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I am with AAMI too but how can they justify nearly 8% of the insured value of the vehicle as an annual premium. That is a rip off. Time to shop around

I'll have to check that. We've been with them for a while so that may not be our figure.

If in a club that is part of 4wd australia try TCIS (brokers), each year i ring around and find them still to be the cheapest (think I am now covered through Suncorp)
Funny thing is I can't get cheaper through Suncorp with my policy number and they won't cover me in 4wd park unless through TCIS.
Go figure
