I've just spoken to the Main Stealer about my 110 Td5 coming to the end of the original warranty period and they suggested I may like to take out an extended warranty.
This covers it for a further 3 years or 75000klms (but doesn't include oil leaks!!!!) for a cost of $2400.
Is it worth it and has anyone personal experience of making a claim and what was the service like from the company who I believe are called All States Warranty Network.
The stealer also reckoned they would check the beast over prior to the end date for any defects but I'm not sure I trust them that much!
Your thoughts will be appreciated as always.
Alan.

Mate, thats a set of lockers!! If it doesnt cover oil leaks, what else are you expecting in a young vehicle thats gonna cost that much. Mine expires in OCT and will probably just have 40000kms on it, going to take it to a reputablr LR fixit place, get them to go over it from top to bottom and then take it to the dealer and say"Fix everything on this list, PLEASE." :evil:

Most aftermarket warranty policies aren't worth the paper they're written on.
Some have $ limits per claim & insist on all services being done right on the correct mileage.

Just as I thought, $2400 plus the cost of the main stealer not doing the servicing (except engine oil) but charging the earth for it, it's not worth having.
Actually I shouldn't say things about that lot because they told me once before that they didn't appreciate my comments about them! That goes for another so called LR expert in Perth, they don't like people telling the truth.
I've booked it in with Kevin at Rovertech for a check over.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Alan.

Invest the $2400 for 3 years, use it on the car if you have to in that time but I am sure it will work out as a better investment. :wink:

Extended warranties can be good and bad. The wynns warranties etc were not worth the paper they were printed on. The extended Holden warranty we got was great but was only $800. It covered everything the factory warranty covered no exception. Even covered trim, items like seat belt plastic trim. Just check it out properly, contact the real underwriter and find out their history.

Personally l would not go near this sort of warranty . just service the landy regularly and it will keep you off the road for years.

Is it actually a real landrover warranty? If it is, I'd think about it. The reason is that parts and repairs for LR can be very pricey. If you're like me and intend on doing big trips every year it might be worth considering. We spent $800 on a toyota extended warranty for our vienta, and at 5.5 years they noticed the dampers were leaking and replaced all 4... we were well ahead https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

On the flipside, LR will normally support their owners for big faults just outside warranty if you've done the right thing. Say a diff bearing failed, and you were the original owner, and had done factory servicing I would expect LR would help you until the car was 5 or so https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

LR used to have a "factory" extended warranty that covered virtually everything. It's the best extended warranty program I've seen but it too was "aftermarket" - through AON but I don't think it's sold like it used to be (something about needing to be a qualified financial advisor to sell the warranty :? ).

All States Warranty Network seems to be what all the Parramatta Rd used car dealers use - it might be good, but it might be bad.

Nissan also do one, $800 and all the same as a factory warranty, no exeptions. Maybe shop around ?

I wish I'd bought an extended warranty on my P38A.

Hi Alan,

I just recently purchased a vehicle that is one year into a 3 year extention to the manufacturers warrant with All States Warranty Network.

I was told prior to purchasing that for a $75 fee it could be transfered into my name. The two points they did not mention was,

1. It had to have a full engineering, mechanical and safety inspection prior to agreeing to the transfer (thank god it passed A OK.

2. You have to get them serviced ever 10,000km regardless of LR schedule. After I brought it was 1k over, and after a quick trip the first week I manged to clock up an extra two thousand, given them the oportunity to cancel the policy.

Will report back how I go, but at this stage I have my doubts that if All States Warranty Network are this keen to get out of the policy what will happen in a claim.

From your point of view you would have to be prepared to get it serviced on the dot at every 10,000, so a problem if you live out of range somewhere.

As I said I will report back how I go with transfer and i intend investigating what exact;y is covered, and more importantly whats not. MY ASWN 'Extention of Manufacturer's' states;

Will expire when
a) vehicle travelled 200,000km
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ when vehicle 7 years old
c) after three years from policy date

Policy limit;
...if your vehicle suffers a mechanical failure we will return your vehicle to good working order. Total claims limited to the market value of vehicle at the time of claim.

Note;
Not responsible for damage due to overheating or lack of oil.

Vehicle policy excludes oil leaks, water leaks, normal wear and tear relative to age and km travelled, all service/maintanance items.

There is two other pages of additional exclusions!

IMHO I think you could use your $800 p/year for a good servicing, but this depends on the amount of mileage your travelling.

Hope this helps, i can fax you the policy if you like.
