SWB in Wonnangatta

My first video upload !!
This was a trip we did in 1983. The shorty was fitted with dual tanks, 3x Jerrycans, Holden 186 (yuk) McNamara diff lock & PTO Winch. The first pic shows what happens if you don't bother to get out & unlock the Diff lock between high speed gravel sections. !! Original Lovicks hut pic also shown.
Whilst some movement around the winch cable might have seemed risky, we had given it a fairly good workout by then & load was well below previous winching.
The original track cut through Wonnangatta valley, newer track now follows higher ground. After 4 hours we came across a convoy of 7 vehicles who spent 12 hours- plus overnight- getting out of Wonnangatta. They wouldn't believe we had left that morning.

Dave would that have been Zeka creek track now long closed due to similar escapades [bigwhistle]
Zeka spur has always been there but it has moved a bit but Zeka creek was closed for good/
I was lucky enough to do Zeka creek track twice in S1 109 in the 80`s[thumbsupbig]

Yep, down Zeka & out via Wombat. My first trip down Zeka was in a Series 2 LWB in Dec 1969 with I reckon only one brake drum not oiled up ( I was young) it needed standing on both feet just to stay on Punt Road Hill !!
I didn't forget the terror of that descent that easily..[smilebigeye]

Zeka Creek - wonderful. I had my first trip down there a couple of years later. Fortunately I never did it when it was that wet. I think I have a photo of a Rangie coming up that same rise you were winching up but in much drier circumstances. Zeka Spur is so much tamer by comparison.

Thanks for posting. Brings back some memories. It all seemed like so much more of an adventure back then.

Great bit of film, brings back some great memories. We went in via Zeka Creek in a SWB series 3 in 1986 or 87, an absolute sea of mud and all winching done with a tirfor. Went out via Collingwood Spur. A fabulous trip. Thanks for posting the video.

Striking a few chords there DeeJay, was 1983 really that far back?
Meanwhile at Zeka Ck, about the same time: '63 Shorty, dual tanks, 2 jerry can holders (rear), Macnamara diff lock, Thomas winch and a 202 (WooHooo, heaps of torque).
First trip with the Olympic Custom Xtra Grips. Very impressed with them, $110 each back then.

Thanks for posting. Great video. It's difficult to beat a SWB SII Soft-top for a cool car in the bush!
