Our daughter has moved home for a while while she goes to uni (last year in nursing) so I had to empty out my office (spare bedroom) and refurbish it as a bedroom for her.

Elisabeth (wife) packed up all my Land Rover manuals and books and they went into the annexe of the garage. While we were away for the weekend, Penrith had about 100mm of rain in a short time and the garage flooded.

I didn't know until last night when I found a number of the boxes in the annexe were soaking wet. One of the bottom boxes was my box of books. Several books fell apart when opened, others have all the pages stuck together and are ruined.

I'm not sure if it's worth claiming on insurance or not.

It all depends on your insurance excess for a claim. If the value of the books is higher by a decent margin may be worth a claim.

As I unpack boxes I find that all the bottom boxes that were soaked have damaged goods.

Some are CDs that came on cardboard cases - the cases are destroyed as are the booklets. Some of the damaged stuff are just sentimental items. Hard to value.

Sentimental gear is priceless, however for insurance purposes they should be worth as much as a new D3TVD6HSE?????

I wish! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

It has slowed down my DVD copying as I've been carefully separating pages on books and drying them today. The County roof rack (off the car) has been a great drying rack. I' ve had books and papers spread everywhere and have been flipping pages, unsticking pages, etc.

ive learnt my lesson with paperwork.....
i get the plastic tubs from the $2 shops...the ones wth lids and are stackable...
i can sit them in the rain and not worry.....
it also stops bugs and cockroaches from nesting in them....

when the bottom box gets wet...it collapses and drops the top ones into the water......
which of course open up and spill all their contents.....so even if they dont get
water damaged...they are all mixed up in a huge mess on the garage floor.....

if they were workshop manuals....just get some quotes for replacements....
you will soon find out that the excess wont even cover the cost of the book for your p38a.....

So where did the water come from?

Overflow from storm water or rising small creek? I would bet you will have to battle the insurance, they will say flooding and try not to pay.
