Hey everybody its about time for my defenders window tint to be redone. Im looking for any recommendations or anybody in the south east queensland area for the best place to get my window tinting done, ive heard a couple horror storys on some defenders particularly when doing the alpine windows.

Not many tinters enjoy the alpine windows......

In the near future I’m going to use the guy that 86mud or is it mud86 used....mainly because it’s close to me and Andrew was happy with the work.

Just had mine done in emerald. Good job, but the refused to do the alpine windows. About $400 and took 5 hours.

Shop around, had quotes up to about $500, got mine done for about $250, didn't do the alpine windows and I wasn't particularly worried about whether they were done or not.

Yea im thinking it might be easier to not worry about the alpine windows. How dark of tint did you guys go i think qld legal tint isnt quite dark enough thinking about going a shade darker ?

I went 35% on front and & 20% rear.
Wanted 5% on the very back but the guy doesn’t carry super dark.

How dark of tint did you guys go i think qld legal tint isnt quite dark enough thinking about going a shade darker ?I went legal on the front windows, which is 35% I think, and then a shade darker for the rest. Which is all within the rules. Was considering the really dark one for the rear, but thought it may be a bit too dark at night, pretty happy with what I have.

I just happened to be right next door to 'Ipswich Window Tinting' before xmas and ducked in for a quote on my 2002 130. My original drivers door tinting is in bad shape. They quoted $350 (all windows) and offered a lifetime guarantee. I simply haven't gotten back to it yet.
Do they all offer the lifetime guarantee, and anyone know of any catches with that guarantee?
Generally after 15 years the tint starts peeling. Has technology improved that much, or are relying on no-one keeping a car that long?
Cheers
Mark

Ive seen a couple landys getting around with that combination of tinting i think the new range rovers come with lighter tint on the front windows and darker on the rear it would probably be a pretty good combination for driving at night. Yea lifetime warranty is pretty impressive , id imagine they wouldnt expect anyone to come back in after 15 years or yea cars been sold on. I would expect after 15 years the tint would be fairly scatched and damaged anyway.

Honestly, if they cant do the Alpine Windows I am not sure I would want them doing any tinting full stop. Remember this is their trade so should be able to do it.
Had no problems getting my D1 and Defender done in Kalgoorlie. Granted it is not an easy job.
A bit like going to buy a chocolate cake only to be told all I do is Vanilla.

Yep, I have to look up who tinted the Statesman as the back is bubbling, some 9 years after being done, however the guarantee says life and as long as we own the car, no actual limit. Could be challenging to get it done though will see. A lot when they say life often only mean 5 years.

Rmd your defender is so nice, that maroon is so nice. CraigE That is a very good point about the apline windows, you will have to let us know how you go with your statesman.

Still a lot of work to do thoe, planning on doing a trip around QLD in August towing a camper trailer and also hope to meet a few defenders and their minders to explore a track or two.
Have you any pictures of your beast?
