Replacing Perentie Speedo Cable

Looking for advice from somebody who has done this on a 6x6 preferably but a 4x4 may be useful as well.
From your experience the best way to access the speedo, unscrew the face plate or the dash housing?
I presume disconnecting the Battery is wise?
Disconnecting Speedo Cable each end?
Any tricks I should know?

No need to disconnect the battery. No real tricks to doing it. Undo the locknut holding the cable into the speedo housing underneath and pull it out , also take it out of the clip under the 3rd axle drive and then tie a bit of cord/string to the end of the cable so the new one comes back in the same position then unscrew the dash fascia plate and disconnect the cable from the speedo. Then withdraw the complete cable, along with the rubber grommet that seals the cable to the firewall. A little bit more fun putting the new one in as you have to fit the grommet into position in the firewall hole under the instruments. Best to do it with the steering wheel removed as you can get more access to the back of the fascia. When you have it all connected up top put the bottom end back into the speedo housing and add the fork and locknut and put it back in the clip under the 3rd axle drive. I put a little sealer around the face of the end plate before I put it into the speedo housing underneath - helps if the seal is leaking. Have fun!!

Have pulled the Cable out as per your advice. Unfortunately I do not have a Puller to remove the Steering Wheel so I am going to leave the Installation until I get one.
I actually removed the Speedo to test the Cable and Speedo with a Drill because the Speedo started working again momentarily. Finally worked the Cable into a position where it stopped working again. Now fairly confident it is the Cable.

I found another Clip holding the Cable which gave me some trouble. It is located at the back of the Motor, under the Air Filter. Hope that makes sense to you.

There is no need to remove the steering wheel. This is a pretty straight forward job. Just make sure the cable engages the speedometer itself. It is easiest to pull the cable out and insert to the speedo and then join the cable housing.

Not sure what Cable you have or replaced but mine does not come apart. The inner cable is captured inside the outer shroud.
It can be done without removing the steering wheel but I agree removing it would make the job much easier. I actually can’t get the instrument panel out completely without removing the steering wheel. Not sure if all 6x6’s are the same.

Edit: A trick I learnt the hard way is to make sure your Speedo is moving freely otherwise your new cable will not last very long!

Is lubricating the speedo cable from the dashboard end, with the speedo already removed, recommended?
