As we Know the air con in the TD5 is only just good for days that only get to 30 ( well 25) and it takes up a lot of room in the passenger foot well and with the wife being over 6 foot she did not have much leg room ( even with seat extensions ). So since I had to replace the gear box after the 5 gear Failed I noticed that the floor was well and truly missing a lot of the metal in both the foot wells. So after replacing them and Dynomat the cad of the 130 I looked into replacing the aircon.
I did not want a roof to unit at all.
So after a bit of looking around and talking to a few people I decided on the Red Dot 6840.
As I had replaced the rear seats with a set from a single cab about 8 years ago, and the kids no longer travel with us (only the Dogs now)I thought that the middle seat back could be a good spot to mount the aircon
After making a cardboard cut out of the size of the aircon I seen that it was easily going to fit in that place
Went down to my local Auto spark and Aircon place and asked if he was willing to do the job. He said yes not a problem
Well now I have it back and it is FANTASIC I have cold air blowing all around the cab even in the foot wells and today was 35 here today and I had to turn it down.
I can still put 2 people in the back as it does not interfere with there seating position
Cheers
p.s. Don't know why the picture is on the side

Mine was dive in drive out....and my TD5 didn’t have compressor, condenser, evaporator, wiring, switches fuses, nothing not a thing. $3800 from memory.

If I had time I would have did some parts of the install but at the time I didn’t have time.

The installer is happy for me to bring it back make some adjustments.

Hi Bully130,
You need to insulate the larger of the 2 fittings coming out of the side of the unit. It is the suction pipe and carries the refrigerant back to the compressor. It will be cold when the system is operating and will sweat considerably on humid days.

Cost about $2000 for the unit and install . You may need a bigger unit for a 110

Took it back to the installer yesterday and showed him that pipe you mentioned LuckyLes
He immediately fixed it with a thick cork based insulation tape.

Nice work bully130!

I have recently had the same unit fitted between the front seats of my 90. I have had a similar experience that it has worked really well and cools the cabin of the 90 down nice and quickly

Cheers,
Sam

That's the stuff. We used to call it tacky tape. Cork insulating tape.

Do the Red Dot units have remote control panels that can be fitted to the dash.

You can get a Red dot Remote control for the Dash.
The Fitter asked me if I wanted the Red dot remote as the Thermostat is a capillary or he suggested that I just have the fan switch mounted on the dash and leave the thermostat on the unit . Which is the way I went as I leave the Thermostat at the one setting and just use the 3 speed fan setting . Also I would have had to wait to get it shipped from the US and was dearer than having just the fan switch located on the dash.

If I need to change the setting I can reach the thermostat if I stop at a set of lights or the passenger can reach it if we are on the move
Hope this helps
