Gday All,

I changed the battery in my keyfob and after watching a youtube vid of a bloke nearly slicing his fingers off trying to use a knife to separate the old keyfob I decided to try a different way. Also thare are a few option in regards to the battery, you can go with the original type that is rechargeable , or you can get a normal button type battery and a separate holder from Jaycar or similar. The difference is that the original has the pos / neg soldered to the battery and when the key is in the ignition it recharges the battery , the other option has the pos /neg on the holder and the battery sits inside and makes contact, so in future battery changes you would just pop the battery out and no need for the unsolder and resolder of the original type battery.
Maybe because I am a sucker , I opted for the original style battery. The battery is a Panasonic VL2330 and I got it from Battery world , cost $15. I think the other option comes in at about $8
So to open the Fob I used a pair of retaining clip pliers , took less than 30 secs to open the old fob

Next was unsolder the old battery , there is enough info on youtube so I wont bother explaining it to much , so unsolder the pos / neg off the board - Don't try and remove the battery from the holder as the battery has the terminals and they feed thru the holder

So you can see the pos /neg where it comes thru the board once removed.

Bit hard to see , but the legs off the battery poke thru the holes in the holder , then you need to poke them thru the board and resolder them on . You cant get them wrong as the pos is twice as fat as the neg so wont fit thru the hole in the board.

Once its resoldered , put it together in the new keyfob . There is a bit of a trick to tensioning the spring on the key , but there is a you tube vid on that so I wont try and explain it. its quite simple to do.

All up took maybe 10 mins , but you need to be able to use a soldering iron. Don't need to be an expert but the board is quite small.

Not up to a challenge ? [bigsmile][bigsmile][bigsmile] Prolly find someone a lot closer than Darwin who would do it. Could be a good excuse for a cold one.
